The edge
Edge at QB, coaching edge, and edge at WR.
Running game: push. TE: Push except for depth, and then edge. Defenses: Push at worst. STs: Push at best. Preparation time: edge On paper it seems like a simple selection. Ah, but that's what Bears fans said right before their game with the Dolphins in 1985. Still, if the Pats go 4-5 wide, how does Dallas attack they way they like to attack with only 4 guys? They do have a very good attacking defense but if you force some of them to cover, I think you see a remarkably vulnerable situation for them. I think that this is Dallas' Achilles Heel: Coverage of lots of good WRs and TEs and RBs. If they try blitzing they will not fool anybody, and they will pay the price. So they won't try to blitz, unless Son of Bum is out of his gourd. He might be. He'll have to learn the hard way. |
Re: The edge
If Maroney is not 100% I might give the Cowpies the edge in the running game.

Re: The edge
Witten is probably a little better than Watson. Coyboys do have a slight edge in TE, but I don't think it will matter all that much. We have the better collection of receivers, thats all that matters.

Re: The edge
Let me correct a slight misconception about the Cowboys D...they actually don't blitz that much, at least so far this year. They've been playing all year with at least one of their starting corners out. Most of their pressure has been coming from the front 3, Ware, and the occational blitzer.
If you guys go 3-4 wide all game, we're not going to blitz except in certain situations. Coverage issues were a problem last year, not necessarily this year. That's not to say we won't have any problems, but don't be surprised if you see a LOT of nickel and dime packages and cover 2 shells. If the Cowboys offense is working, we can trade points with the Patriots and stay competitive. As for Witten, let's keep this conversation real. Watson isn't Witten, not even close. Expect to see our TEs (yes, both TEs) beating coverages all day long, especially if you focus on stopping TO, which I think would be a mistake. |
