Predict the Score RESULTS, Week 5 CLE @ NE
So I was just browsing my favorite football news site, WTF. I was amazed to see this:
POSTED 2:39 a.m. EDT, October 11, 2007 NFL TAKES UNPRECEDENTED ACTION BY OVERTURNING REPLAY Mike Pereira, head of NFL officiating, said tonight on the NFL Network's "Total Access" program that for the first time ever the NFL would be overturning the result of a replay review after the game was complete. The play ocurred with 0:52 left in the fourth quarter of Sunday's Patriots-Browns game. The Browns' Kellen Winslow caught a pass from QB Derek Anderson on his own 19 and the ball was immediately knocked loose by New England cornerback Randall Gay, who picked the ball up at the 15 and ran it in for the touchdown. Pereira said "We were monitoring the Browns-Patriots game from our command center in New York and could not believe that such an obvious incompletion could be called a fumble. Referee Walt Coleman usually does a great job but really blew it this time." The 7 points resulting from Gay's recovery will be removed from the official record. The game will go into the record books as a New England victory by the score of 27-17 rather than the previously believed 34-17. In a related move, a league insider has told us that Raiders owner Al Davis will attempt to use this precedent to overturn another of Coleman's reviews, in the 2001 AFC Divisional playoff against the Patriots. Davis is expected to file suit in federal court Thursday morning. This really doesn't affect many people, but it does directly affect three of us here at the Predict the Score contest: Bostonian1962, braveht, and, well, alamo, all correctly predicted Patriots 27 Browns 17 for a perfect score! Wow! Congratulations us! The real loser in all this is "the Patriot", who picked Patriots 34 Browns 17 and would himself have had a perfect score but for this ruling. Congratulations to "the Patriot" for (what could have been) a perfect winning score in week 5! Code:

Hey, Braveht and I had the score predicted exactly right, until Gay took a fumble to the house with 42 seconds left in the game, so I'm still hurting. I'm hurting real bad!!! :)
I can muster up the strength to predict a score for the Dallas game though: Patriots 28 - Cowboys 27 |
