The lateral play

Some thoughts:

1. It can only be a good play if you're SURE the receiving player is looking for it.

2. Moss was involved in a similar play in Minny. That time, he'd actually practiced it unofficially with the other receiver (I forget who). It was well-publicized.

3. Moss looked like he was cruising by more ready for a lateral than to throw a block. Even if that was just an illusion, at a minimum he seemed ready for a lateral.

4. None of the above will make BB approve. :) It may, however, make him less drastically disapproving ...

5. One of Brady's few weak spots is taking silly chances when ahead. So, notwithstanding #4, BB is apt to come down on this like a ton of bricks, for Tom's case as much as anything.

i think the problem is that lateraling is contagious! besides the obvious not worth the risk.

wes also made another "mistake" when he seemed to have a 1st down but went backwards trying to get more yards. he has to get used to a different metality then he had at miami...where you could only win with trickery..or he had to always try for the something extrta.

I had to call hubby at work right after that play - made for some exciting viewing. BB's post game comments were what you'd expect. Hard to get after him too much when it went for extra yards, not something we want to be doing - in general less than excited about it.

It's very much in the same vain as Hobb's return.

successful plays, just not smart. BB will not castrate them over successful plays, but will certainly advise againt taking future chances like that.

IIRC, his comment was "hard to get after him ...etc.,..but we'll try" Had to love it,classic BB.:D

Only one thing to say about that play, you never like to see the ball being thrown around with susch carelessness but the players play and that worked out to be positive while highly dangerous. Welker took the risk if it screws up there he will never hear the end of it.
