Can someone try to explain this camera on the sidelines stuff...

Read and listened to a bunch of this crap for the past 24 hours or so, do not understand all of the hoopla.. it seems as though there was someone who had Pats credentials on the sidelines filming or vice versa...but what I do not understand is:

1. Isn't a better vantage point from the press box, so the whole field can be seen??... with telephoto stuff you can pretty much see everything.
2. Aren't the signals made by other guys every week, so that the opposing team is confused as to who the signal caller is??
3. Even if it is taped, how is it transmitted to the coaches box? Where it can make some type of impact.
4. Why do this if you know the team and all of its tendencies as well as we know the Pats??
5. If this guy had Pats credentials, why didn't he have on the Orange jacket to hide him better? Duh, this guy is gonna be that exposed...
6. Where was the Jets Security when this happened?
7. Aren't all things taped for further review by the football team after the game??

This stuff happens in baseball, happens in football...every team tries to get an advantage during a game, cannot see how this would benefit the Pats.

Perhaps it is my digital world Naivete, but do not understand the whole thing..all teams are taping what goes on in a game, unless I understand how this gives the Pats an advantage, will not understand all of the yakkety yak, it makes good hysterical media, but not much else.

Re: Can someone try to explain this camera on the sidelines stuff..

Thanks for asking this. I've read hundreds of posts and have the same questions. Specifically, I've seen references to videotaping being forbidden. But there are video cameras all over the place. Teams make gametapes to review, there are the network cameras, heck - even most pocket digital cameras take 15-30 second clips.

And if I can add on one question - any clue as to when there will be a decision/statement made by the powers that be?

Now the plot thickens, the cameraman used "hand signals", to relay the defensive "hand signals".

From Tomase's article in the Herald:

...though sources in Green Bay believed the cameraman was relaying information to the Patriots bench via hand signals.
This is getting frickin ridiculous. But on the other hand if this cameraman and the team can set up this kind of "spy" network I say we put them on the case finding Bin Laden.

IT'S ENVY if they can't beat us they'll discredit us. They lost 'cause we cheated allegedly. Last year when we played Green Bay,a GB employee was caught wearing Pats gear and had a video camera,he was caught in the act of taping our signals. We didn't hear about that did we because the person in question worked for the team that lost, and we did,'t want to make an issue out of it.

same thing in Miami last year Miami was caught steeling our signals during that 21-0 rout of us.Nothing was made of it even though Kraft complained to the league about it.

Can someone show me the videotape, or the videotape of the guy skulking around with his Pats credentials showing?

Or if it's an electronic transmission, does that show up on a server log?

Maybe I'll eat my words, but what I see thus far (and correct me if I'm wrong) are opinions (ranging all the way up to "they should suspend BB".

Based on nothing but the allegation of a losing coach who is known to have a history with Bellichick.

I take it with a great big grain of salt.

I've got to think that it would be nearly impossible to tape and transmit the photos for immediate use on the field. It certainly wasn't the reason Moss beat 3 defenders on his TD or that the defender whiffed while attempting to tackle Welker on his TD or why the whole Jets special team failed to tackle Hobbs.

I'm troubled by this being reviewed by the competition committee since they have a clear anti Pats bias to begin with. Don't forget that they instigated the horrible no contact rules for DBs as a special point of enforcement after the Pats were playing physical with the Colts WRs.

It might well be envy that's making other teams moan and whine. But if the Pats have been caught doing this as often as Tomase says, and if they have been warned before and they are STILL doing it, well, it's probably cheating and it's certainly stupid. The "they-all-do-it" defence doesn't work. "They-all" haven't been caught (that we know of).

So what is the statute of limitations in the NFL? Will there be a consequence for the Green Bay guy?

Maybe it's closer to "It goes on and it's not big deal unless u wish to be a p**sY" sort of thing. Teams do it and it's not a big thing. Really can u imagine a team not trying to do things to get signals?? I agree it is stupid and with teh competition committee making decisions...What gets me is why this committee, a committee where the members blatantly change rules for their own teams advantage year after year, is not rotated?? I find THAT very biased and totally unfair.

I will blieve it when they show some evidence, otherwise I think its a rummor put out there. There are so many posts on this subject and its being repeated so many times people are starting to believe it as fact. Like the BIG lie.
