Who Said France Supported Hussein During Oil For Food?

Looks like we may have another back door "supporter" of Husseins deadly regime...none other than Condi Rices Chevron Corporation. Another clear cut case of willful ignorance and corporate corruption by Republican con artists (those words practically go hand in hand).

Quote:

A report released in 2004 by an investigator at the Central Intelligence Agency listed five American companies that bought oil through the program: the Coastal Corporation, a subsidiary of El Paso; Chevron; Texaco; BayOil, and Mobil, now part of Exxon Mobil. The companies have denied any wrongdoing and said they were cooperating with the investigations.
As part of the deal under negotiation, Chevron, which now owns Texaco, is not expected to admit to violating the U.N. sanctions. But Chevron is expected to acknowledge that it should have been aware that illegal kickbacks were being paid to Iraq on the oil, the investigators said.
Quote:

According to the Volcker report, surcharges on Iraqi oil exports were introduced in August 2000 by the Iraqi state oil company, the State Oil Marketing Organization. At the time, Condoleezza Rice, now secretary of state, was a member of Chevron's board and led its public policy committee, which oversaw areas of potential political concerns for the company.
Ms. Rice resigned from Chevron's board on Jan. 16, 2001, after being named national security advisor by President Bush.

You got it. Now whats funny is that I thought this was old news. There were indications of this conflict of interst since the Volcker report came out years ago (04, IIRC). I guess the liberal  media were just too slow to pick up on it. Oh that and it was an election year and this type of news could have really hurt John Kerry ;) .

Condi Rice is a scumbag.

That story doesn't really say that Condoleeza Rice was involved in any criminal way. It only says she was on the politcal policy board till she because National Security Advisor. Furthermore, when Chevron was warned that the surcharges were prohibited by the OFF Program in 2001, and ignored that warning, Condoleeza was no longer with the company. I'm not a guilt by association type of guy, although that doesn't proclude me from thinking that their could have been some impropriety on her part. Anything is possible as we all know, and I always like to say that 70-80% of pols are evil or corrupt, but there isn't enough there to certify culpability or guilt.

WTF... a perfect chance for the "cons" to defend themselves and they shy away like well...sheep without a shepherd. God bless the GOP.

He said that doesnt make Condi culpable, and he's right.

That said, he does what he does best and deflects the issue in the best possible light for the GOP.

The real issue is the hypocrisy of those like you that insist FRANCE is evil because they dealt with Saddam, WHEN US OIL CORPORATIONS WERE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING.

Now, I doubt you understand that, but people with independant minds, unadulterated by the right wing spin machine of Rush, O'Really, and Hannity, can see the double standard from your side pretty clearly I would guess.

Oh, if you were trying to criticize US corps, count me as being onboard. No doubt they were paying the murdering regime like everybody else. They are as evil, and as guilty as anyone else involved. I'm with you there. It seemed to me though that you were trying to make the case that Condi Rice was somehow guilty of doing it.
