News and notes from Draft Day at Gillette

I originally wasn't going to make this thread because of all the posts and threads would have drowned it but i would have got into a huge conversation with BelichickFan, whom i owe a car too for the Patriots drafting Merriweather;) , and whatever i have picks but i dont think anyone wants to see my ugly face :p .

Anyway.

News and notes from Draft Day.

Bob Kraft got up and spoke and talked about general stuff as usual. Talked about how the fans were important and how they capitalized on numerous situations this offseason.
- They (Kraft, Pioli, Belichick) did not expect Thomas to be a FA but due to cap reason with the Ravens it allowed them to capitalize, he was there number 1 priority this offseason.
- Was asked about the Welker trade and gave a sort of shocking comment. Said that they viewed Welker as a great all around player and thought he could be something special for this team and the second round pick was tradable because they thought the second round talent was very average at best. That took me back and said huh they knew that months ago?
- Someone asked him to buy the Bruins to only get a chuckle from Kraft and a maybe if the paperwork presents itself.
- Someone asked who they were going to draft he said "i dont encourage any of our fans to bet but if i had to bet i would bet defense"
- I met Kraft and had him sign my Draft Day cap but i was kind of shocked i got to meet him and blanked and asked him almost nothing of importance.
Dont i feel dumb now.

People cheered the Brady Quinn to Cleveland pick and clapped and applauded when Romeo Crennel came on the screen.

- Merriweather pick came up and everyone clapped and one guy started screaming as if his child were just shot. But it was a scream of happiness. I turned to my girlfriend and referred to him as Howard Dean for the rest of the night.

After the Merriweather pick was made Dean Peas came up. I was happy as hell. I had about 40 questions to ask and he was only going to talk for 5 - 10 minutes.
- Talked about Thomas acquisitions
- Was not worried about Merriwether's off field incidents because they had done multiple background checks.
- Talked as if he was the pick they wanted all along by saying "we were shocked to see he was still available at 24 for us"
- I asked how he felt he would be used more as a FS or as a S/CB tweener. And in typical Patriot fashion i was answered somewhat. For the most part they want to use him at safety so they can move other players around but wouldnt rule out using him on "certain" situations in the slot. AKA the Dallas Clark cover guy.
- As he left the podium i caught up with him and should have taken a picture but forgot to and all he said was we just got a great player.

Pick 28 was traded and everyone hit the doors except for several people here and their. But McDaniels was going to come up and talk.

- McDaniels came up and just started taking questions basically.
- Was asked about Maroney and Jackson and said both are doing "great" both have been working out at Gillette with very good progress for each. Also said Troy Brown is always working out here and just getting back from his knee surgery.
- Asked about Moss (before we traded for him) and said he knew an offer was made but thats as far as he knew/could comment.
- He also said the progress that Reche and Jabar has been great and they are a giant leap ahead of where they were last year.
Welker, Stallworth and Washington have also been hitting the books hard studying and training to get into great shape and good timing. All have been committed to the offseason workouts and training.
- I asked what he felt we need for day 2. He said maybe addressing a few more Offensive lineman and maybe a backup QB and RB. Basically what we got.

I caught up with him for a picture and a few words and he came across as one of the nicest people to meet. Really likes the way the team is looking and thinks that it should be a good year.

All in all a great time.

Now only if i can get a internship.

Any questions? feel free to ask as always.

Its awesome to hear our coaches say "We got a great player" with confidence. It makes me feel like we just got a future star safety.

Thanks for a good read! Would you say the event was worthwhile overall?

Sounds like it was a blast. How do you get invited to this event? Did you have to pay an extraordinary amount for tickets?

Did we disagree on this earlier ? I don't rememeber :)

On the Welker thing, the trade did make sense when we started punting all out draft picks.

He paints such a positive picture of all the WR I can't imagine who won't make the team but they can't all make it.

Thanks for typing all that stuff out.

My girlfriend bought me tickets for a birthday present. They sell them apparently every year. It was great, the food was great, meeting current and former players was great and hearing and meeting the FO and coaching staff? Priceless.

They've just sold me on coming back every year.
Not sure how much. I'll get back to you in a PM when i talk to her.

If these kinds of threads are what you losing bets nets the board, you need to lose more bets.
