The corner market was lousy this year.

And they've been negotiating w/ Samuel since before the season ended. I don't think they are suddenly 'suprised' by his demands.

After keeping cap space available in case they signed Branch and Law last year and getting niether, I have little doubt they have a plan in case AS is gone or holds out. With almost 8 Mill on the table with the tag I would think it's unlikely AS holds out although he may not show up in TC until the last minute. Bbioli think of everything.

The signing of AS had little to do with our signings in free agency. If we could have found a corner, we would have signed him. Having three good corners would have been fine.

That being said, I think that we will draft a corner. bb will not count on AS for the future, unless he is signed to a long-term deal befoer the draft.

Yeah. IMO there is no way Samuel holds out when that much money is one the table. Branch was set to earn what, like 1.5, 2 million? This is almost 8 million dollars we are talking about.

As a continuously know-nothin' and confounded fan, I really can't imagine how it could be any other way. In a way, I'm a little excited about this proposition. I've always been keen on the CB position and am routinely jealous of the early round, hot shot CBs that other teams have drafted.

If the Pats find a talented CB they can mold, it will be truly exciting to watch it unfold, as opposed to hoping for the best and watching him tend towards splitting...:(

I doubt the trade demand comes as much suprise to BB/Pioli. It's pretty common for franchised guys to do and they're pretty familiar with Asante and what his camp was looking for going in.

I'd be pretty surprised if the Patriots F.O. doesn't take this kind of long-term thing into account. I don't know that they're completely caught off guard that one of their young players, entering FA (at the time a year away), might want more $$$ than they're likely to offer.
