Don't know if this is much relevance to the Samuel negotiations. |
Re: Guessing at Clement's cap hit
Looks like it's not just not really 8 years at $80M, it's likely not 7 years $64M unless the 49'ers really want it to be, and it could also easily be a 5 year $43M or about any other lengh they choose including a 1 year $11M deal since either all or half of the bonus money is front loaded. And even if they treat the second $10M bonus as option it doesn't implicitly guarantee he sees more than 2-3 more years because the dead cap would be comparatively negligible by 2010-2011.

Re: Guessing at Clement's cap hit
Miguel, you are missing a major aspect of the deal: if the 2008 bonus is paid the last year is voided. Remarkably the last year of the deal literally can't happen--either they pay the bonus and void it or they cut him.

Re: Guessing at Clement's cap hit
I think year 8 is a moot point regardless. So to likely are years 6 and 7 with just $3.3M in amortization if any to be absorbed over those years if he doesn't play them for approaching double digit almost or entirely salary fueled cap hits.

I am not missing it. I am showing the current deal as it is set up. But I will update the gif anyway. http://www.patscap.com/clements.gif |
