Jake Plummer OFFICIALLY retires [Merged]

Quote:

DENVER -- Jake Plummer poured a glass of water, took a giant gulp and then talked for almost five minutes about how he was officially retiring from the NFL before stepping away from the podium without answering any questions.

The Denver Broncos quarterback was in a hurry Friday. He had a handball tournament he needed to attend.

"I wanted to come in and tell you guys on camera and face-to-face that the speculation can stop tonight," Plummer said from the Denver Athletic Club. "You can know by the looking in my face and hearing my words that I am retiring from the NFL. At 32 years old, I'm running away from the game. Not in fear or fright, but health-wise. I'm healthy. I'm happy. I have a lot to look forward to in my life."

The Broncos traded Plummer to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 3 for a conditional pick in the 2008 draft. The Bucs made the deal despite being aware of Plummer's retirement plans. He said on the Web site of The Jake Plummer Foundation last Saturday that he was retiring.

im pretty sure tampa bay still has to give up a 7th round draft pick in the 2008 draft.

Probably will take the year off then come back next year as starting QB to some poor sap team who will pay him big $$$ for another underacheiving year,Looks like most positions if not all as starting QB are filled this year expect for maybe Oakland,Detroit and Houston

OT: Good for Jake Plummer

Not sure if any of you read the latests quotes from Plummer when he came out and pretty much flat-out stated he is retiring and it's not a ploy:

Quote:

Quarterback Jake Plummer has announced his retirement from the NFL.

"I wanted to come in and tell you guys on camera and face-to-face that the speculation can stop tonight," Plummer said. "You can know by the looking in my face and hearing my words that I am retiring from the NFL. At 32 years old, I'm running away from the game. Not in fear or fright, but health-wise. I'm healthy. If he is indeed serious and this isn't a gambit to get out of his trade, kudos to him. Too many QBs (*cough*Bledsoe*cough*) will stick around and collect paychecks well after their skills have diminished.

And for a guy like Plummer, walking away from the game at 32, you clearly don't have the passion for it, so why keep at it? It's not like Favre who you know just wants to play. If you don't have the fire, leave. You have your millions, you still have your health, get out while the gettin's good.

Maybe Drew can learn from this prideless act of integrity.

Of course, Plummer could be just full of **** and wanting to get out of Tampa, and then I take back everything I said and simply applaud his business acumen. :)
