The Chargers will extend the first- and third-round tender to Michael Turner

Chargers to grant Turner highest possible tender

I don't think the Jets will pay that price but time will tell.

Why would they do that? Idiots. They are going to end up in the same boat as the Jets were with Jordan and get nothing in return when he hits FA.

Why not tender him a 1st? Someone would possibly pay that and you'd get a solid ROI on your draft pick.

what round was he drafted in, what will they get for him in comp. pick when he leaves a year from now. maybe they think having him for another season plus the comp pick will help them more this year. or maybe they just think someone will give up a 1 and 3.

they did it so the broncos won't make an offer, and at the same time they can try and come up with a trade partner more to their liking (non afc west team, maybe even nfc team only), and probably for only a 1st round pick.

he was a 5th round draft pick , i doubt we get much for him when he walks (if we haven't dealt him to another team well before then)

Turner is pretty good, but he's sure as hell not worth a 1 & 3.

I suspect the Chargers will pick up LT's new backup in the draft this year because Turner will be gone next year.

exactly, he's not worth 1/3 , they just did that so they can dictate where they send him if they choose to trade him.

I don't know. I seem to recall that in the new CBA they were trying to put clauses in to avoid teams from "over-tendering" RFA to essentially artifically manufacture a franchise tag and then simply trading them.

I dont know if language was put in place, but I seem to remember the league strongly advising against this type of behavior.

This has been predicted since day one, why is anyone surprised by this? Obviously no ones going to give a 1st and 3rd for him, SD keeps his rights so they can trade him for the best offer. If they can't move him then they get a first rate backup for another year for not a terrible amount of money. This is a no brainer.
