Conflicting stories about Corey...CONFUSING!!
 

On Cold Pizza they were talking about the fact that Corey wants to leave the Patriots because he took a page out of Kiki Barber and wanted to leave football because he was still young enough and not all beat up and torn up and to have time to play with his kids and become a full time HEALTHY dad before he plays too long and becomes an unhealthy person like many former players do after football (Ted Johnson for example) .

On the other hand,there are reports that he wants to leave the Patriots because he once again wants to be an every down back on another team while he still thinks he can be.

What is it? and what is correct?

Is he leaving because he wants a full time RB position in his final years? or is it he wants to be a full time family man?

Confusing reports make my head spin here......

Dillon, 32, has three years remaining on his contract, with a $4.4 million cap hit for 2007.

Breer is only half right here.

It's 4.4M before 6/1 and 1.9M after. So Dillon and Feldman want to get cut on 3/2 so he has more options, the Pats will want 6/1 to reduce the cap hit.

Actually this is the important part of the article:

"After speaking to Dillon late last night, agent Steve Feldman said the future Hall of Fame tailback has asked the Patriots for his release, and it will be granted on March 2, the first day of the NFL’s free agency period.


He is due a $3M option bonus in March, so the Pats may not have the luxury of waiting until June. The agent said they have agreed to release him, and that would be a good reason why. That option included language that called for the $3M to become guaranteed salary if the option wasn't picked up. When the option was deferred from 2006 to 2007 it now appears likely that language may have remained in effect, or perhaps language granting FA was substituted for it.

I also believe the new CBA allows a team to cut up to two vets before June 1 and treat them as if they had waited. The players association lobbied for that one so those players would have a better shot at catching on elsewhere early in FA.

But hsi is where the revised CAP language cuts in. It is possible for a team to cut a single guy earlier than 6/1 and still treat it like a post 6/1 cut. The argument for that revised language was to allow just exactly the Dillon case of not wanting to pay a option bonus.

Wow that's almost counter intuitive that they would lobby for it. I understand it to a point but it takes all the pressure off the teams.
