Pats now must sign a WR
Who is available? The team MUST sign an IMPACT WR this offseason. They have no choice with CJ going down. The offense really needs a threat that defenses MUST account for. Jabbar, Reche and Troy are NOT going to cut it.
The team needs a Corey Dillon like signing this offseason. He was a big reason the team won in 2004. Anybody out there worth looking at in free agency or trades? The team has 11 draft picks to use to bargain with. I don't think the team should roll the dice again and draft high at this position. |
Re: Pats now must sign a WR
I disagree. Our offense had good season team stats, and our receivers were clicking by playoff time. I also think Chad Jackson will be okay. If you agree that our offense failed in the clutch, as well as didn't have enough big plays, then cross your fingers and hope that Josh McDaniels grows as a coordinator.

Jackson wasn't exactly a sure thing. If we have to sign one now, we had to sign one then too. I expect a FA WR or first day WR but the need has only increased a little bit based on Jackson.

I agree with the JD thing. Losing CW was a HUGE hit to this offense and especially Brady. CW always had a few tricks up his sleeve and they seemed to work more often or not. Hopefully JD has learned a few things or two.
I would love to see a player like Moss here this season for a draft pick. That would make an immediate impact. I don't think the lockeroom would let the guy "take a few plays offs" either. Playing for a winner does wonders for motivation. Failing that the team needs to bring a bunch of "scrap heap" players to camp and keep the best ones. This has been their usual procedure anyway. |

Gaffney & Caldwell & a healthy and developed Jackson is a great trio - now, we're not entirely sure for how much of the season we'll have CJ and how effective he'll be. I think it does change our plans. I think it makes more sense to sign a FA then draft. With CJ's role a little in the air for next season, the need becomes for 07. We know it's tough to ask a wideout to come in and compete in his rookie season, so we really need to adress the hole in free agency. Kevin Curtis would be nice. |

Re: Pats now must sign a WR
Please no Moss.... i posted his 3 year stat where he yards were around 700 for 2 and 1000 for 1.Give jabbar a whole season he will beat all the 3 numbers which moss generated.
Actually watson numbers are better than 2 of the last 3 years of moss. Also , he has a hugh contract and we cannot cut him if we find he cannot run routes or lacks the work ethic to read the game plan week after week. they had a show on chad and he shows this thick book with 200 plays which he is reading for the next week game.... that is work ethic and for soemreason people think he is going to pick a 200 page book and read it week after week after nearly spending his life never doing it. I see a FA but a lower pick brought in. ...guys like kight and bam deserve a shot last year once reche took the spot and jabbar came it they pretty got ths snaps with brady.with them in a more comfort zone give this guys a break would be my thought. Also , our offence except for themiami game was really good people forget the viking game and sd game where we won because of WR not the running game. |

Re: Pats now must sign a WR
While I still see WR a pos of need, it is not the same as last season. We picked up 2 very good wr's who will be fine. We drafted one that remains a ?.
We definitely made strides to be younger and deeper at that position. I would say that a solid Pats type wr added in FA (Curtis?) would be all that would be necessary to make this unit solid for 2007. |
Re: Pats now must sign a WR
I think Jackson's injury may increase the likelihood that the Pats will sign a good FA WR like Curtis, but I don't think it makes them any more likely to draft a WR in the 1st round.
Jackson's injury doesn't make a 1st round WR less likely to be a bust, Jackson's injury doesn't change the fact that first year WRs usually are not very productive, Jackson's injury doesn't make our back eight less in need of an injection of talented youth, Jackson's injury doesn't change the fact that defense wins. |
