Caserio to replace Daboll
Posted by Albert Breer at 4:42 pm

Nick Caserio — the Patriots director of pro personnel for the last three years — has been tabbed to replace Brian Daboll as wide receivers coach with the team. Daboll left for the Jets last week.

Caserio has been with the Patriots since 2001 in a variety of roles. He worked as a low-level assistant in 2002, his only full-time assignment on the coaching side. Also, when Ivan Fears took medical leave during the 2005 training camp, Caserio filled in as running backs coach. His first job with the Patriots, in 2001, was as a personnel assistant. In 2003, he served as an area scout.

Caserio was a college teammate of Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels at John Carroll in Cleveland. Ironically, the new receivers coach was a quarterback throwing to McDaniels, a wide out, who now also serves as the Patriots’ quarterbacks coach. Following graduation, Caserio was a graduate assistant for two years at Saginaw Valley (Mich.) State.

NICK CASERIO: “I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with our receivers. I have tremendous respect for our staff and players and am eager to join them in a coaching role.”

Caserio follow-up

A bit more on the hiring of Nick Caserio as the new receivers coach for the Patriots:

As part of their press release announcing the move, the Patriots included comments from Caserio and head coach Bill Belichick.

Caserio

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with our receivers. I have tremendous respect for our staff and players and am eager to join them in a coaching role.”

Belichick

“Since 2001, Nick has been a tremendous asset to this program through his contributions in both coaching and scouting. He brings a thorough understanding of our offensive system and personnel and we are excited for his return to the staff.”

As for Caserio, here are a few key points about his career to this point:

-Spent last three years as the Patriots' director of pro personnel.

-Enters his seventh season with the Patriots (also his seventh NFL season).

-Originally joined the Patriots in June 2001 as a personnel assistant. During that year, his role was expanded to include film breakdown and scouting report preparation for Charlie Weis’s offensive coaching staff.

-He became an offensive coaching assistant on Bill Belichick’s staff in February 2002.

-After a season in coaching, Caserio returned to the personnel department in 2003, serving as an area scout that year. He was named the Patriots’ director of pro personnel on February 6, 2004 and spent three years in that role.

-In addition to his personnel duties, Caserio filled in as the Patriots’ running backs coach while Ivan Fears was on medical leave during 2005 training camp.

-Began his coaching career in the collegiate ranks, serving as a graduate assistant at Saginaw Valley State University from 1999-2000. He was a graduate assistant at Central Michigan in the spring of 2001 before joining the Patriots in June 2001.

-Caserio attended John Carroll University, where he was a four-year starting quarterback and a teammate of Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who played wide receiver for the Blue Streaks.

Hopefully he can be here for more than a year before the Jets try to grab him.
Good to see a loyal man move up the ladder.

That's very odd. He was tapped to replace Scott Pioli if Pioli ever left. Hey, maybe Pioli can become the QB coach?

Anyhow, check out this interesting article on Caserio, McDaniels and London Fletcher.

Not so sure it's moving up the ladder as much as branching out perhaps on the road to GM'dom.

As usual we stay in house. It's all about familiarity with the system.

Thomas Dimitroff, most likely. He's the college scouting coordinator.

Kyle O'Brien and Adam Peters are the only two pro scouts.

Hopefully Caserio's Central Michigan roots can help provide insight on intriguing prospects LT Joe Staley and DE/OLB Dan Bazuin.

I forget which Bowl game it was (Motor city??) but Bazuin just dominated that game no matter what they threw at him.....

As for Caserio, enjoy the quote, it will probably be the last one from him for a few years..................
