The Man Behind The Scene on Iraq

Something very important has been going on concerning Iraq.

It's my belief that James Baker is now the driving force for a resolution to the Iraq quagmire.A couple of weeks ago,he mentioned, publicly, that we need a new stratergy.I think he's also speaking for Bush the elder in this regard.

Perhaps,he's the one behind the Rumsfield resignation and also,he's the one who floated the "tri-partition"
(sunni,shiite,kurds) as a possible resolution.

He's someone who is well- respected,
both nationally and internationally.

I've got a good feeling about this,he's
always been a player behind the scenes.

Look for a fact-finding group to go to the Middle East....Baker,Liberman,
Murtha?

New faces?.....New perspective?

To break this logjam....What do you think?

The Baker ISG will be unveiled within the next few weeks and should give Bush the cover he needs to change course.

It would have been nice to have had this type of bipartisan analysis force a policy shift earlier...but better late than never.

Iraq has come undone and if can't be secured by 300,000+ trained Iraqis, then it wont be secured by 150,000 US troops.

My guess is that we'll end up keeping 30-50,000 "advisors" in Iraq and redeploy the rest "over the horizon" to AFG. Thats where our forces are needed to avoid that fragile nation from also coming undone. And I worry that our bases in Iraq will end up being strained through atrition.

what a fustercluck

This is an interesting thread as when I introduced the preliminary findings of the Iraq Study Group, it was quickly dismissed by the right side of this board..

Thanks for the link to your post,I hadn't

seen it before.I'm hoping that if no one

starts grandstanding here,we could see

some real movement.

I think GWB,the elder is behind all this

and maybe an acceptable democrat will

be of help.

Joe Biden or Bill Clinton?
