Media fawning over Peyton Manning
 

Why isnt it ever mentioned how Manning never wins the big game? The guy is a tremendous player, which makes his obvious chokes even more glaring. I thought that surely, after last years disaster at home against the Steelers, which included defying his coach and throwing his teammates under the bus, that the announcers would FINALLY stop making him out to be the greatest QB ever.

But apparently, theres a difference when Wilt Chamberlain ( who won 2 titles but was still called a loser), Donovan MCNabb, and Michael Vick dont win titles and when Petton Manning doesnt. In fact, going back through college i cant think of another example of a player who was so great but yet was such a miserable player in the biggest games. Even Barry Bonds had a good WS in 2002.

Ben Roethlisburger did more in 2005 than Manning has ever done.

To me, last night was a pretty big game. Whichever team won was going to have the inside track to HFA, and Indy will most certainly have it come playoff time. We all know their history but I'd rather play the Colts at home than in the dome.

Manning proved last night that he's every bit as good as the hype, IMO.

He deserves every bit of ballwashing that he gets.

He's the man.

Now, if he can't ever get over the hump and win a SB he'll simply be a better version of Marino when people look back on his career. But if he keeps playing the way he's played this season, I think the SB is a realistic goal for the Colts.

Manning is playing lights out.

And I hate the guy, so I say all of that grudgingly, but it's true.

I've heard that exact point discussed 24/7 for weeks and during the entire game as well. What where you listening to?

I LOVE the Pats, but Manning was the better QB last night and the Colts whooped us. We were NOT prepared for their D, we got unnecessarily cute with the game plan, we turned the ball over like amateurs, and Brady and the WR's were way off.

Everything else is just static and denial IMO. I sure hope we get revenge in the playoffs, but give credit where credit is due.

Like it or not, Brady's big game peformances have been awful since the Denver loss in the playoffs. This year, in the two biggest games on the season, Brady has completely wilted. Denver came into Foxboro and dominated the Pats - Brady had no answer. The Colts come into Foxboro this season and Brady completely craps the bed, with the help of one Josh McDaniels and his stupid trick plays.

Brady has to re-establish himself as a big game QB in the playoffs this year, or perhaps against Chicago in a few weeks. What he's done in the past is just that: in the past. This is a new team and Brady has to be the one who establishes the offense's identity. So far, he's only be able to do that against fraudulent teams.

Hopefully, he'll get things turned around. This season, though, he's not anywhere close to being in Manning's class. No one is, for that matter.

wow. 10-1 in the playoffs, 3 World Championships, but since he hasnt done it for ya lately he's not in the class of a guy who wins a November football game and has never won even a conference championship.

all hail Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy. Belichick and Brady can only hope to attain their status someday :rolleyes:

Way to misinterpret my post, buddy. Good job. The way Manning is playing right now, this season, this instant, Brady is no where close to being on the same level. Week in and week out, Manning is consistently great. Whether or nto he'll wilt in the playoffs again remains to be seen.

But to ignore that Brady hasn't stepped up in a big spot in awhile is just plain homerism. When we've needed Brady the most, going from the Denver playoff loss onward, he hasn't been there. Nothing wrong with admitting that.

Well, if you guys think the Manning boot licking is bad up there, try it from down here in New Orleans, where he is from. They have their tongues so far up the kid's @$$, that they can taste his breakfast. I will give him his credit, he is damn good. But, out here, they try comparing him to Johnny Unitas, Roger Staubach, Bart Starr, Joe Montana et al, you know ones that have ACTUALLY WON CHAMPIONSHIPS !!! It is like, guys, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. If he wins a few titles before his career is over, then I think you can credibly make those comparisons. I don't even care to listen to it out here right now. Thus far, Indy has been kind of lucky in about 3 of their 8 wins that could have gone either way. Any way, I will give him his credit and due. But, until he actually wins something tangible, instead of putting up tons of useless stats like he has done since he was at Tennessee, some of those comparisons just won't hold water. Now comparing him to Marino, well then I can buy he is better than him.


Now that having been said, we can NOT deny Manning has outdone Brady, since the last meeting last year. Unfortunately, to date we have lost BOTH of our biggest tests thus far (Denver, Indy), and sadly both at HOME !!! Manning has won both, on back to back weekends. If we are somehow to win our 4th SB in 6 years, we will have to go through some place else other than Foxboro this time around. We lost that opportunity last night. I just don't see us doing it this year after last night's debacle and the Denver catastrophe. Now hopefully, they will prove me wrong. I would GLADLY be wrong and gloat about it, should they do so.


Hey, if we really want to get into Manning's head, let's just see if we can get the Ole Ball Coach (Steve Spurrier) to come to the stadium whenever we play against Indy :D He was 0-for-4 against him and the Gators at Tennessee.

right now, this season, this instant. ok, i'll buy that. I just dont think its that important what happens in November. How did Manning do in HIS playoff game last year? At least Brady won one last year against Jacksonville.
And this "awhile" is all relative to how you view time i guess. I look at a whole body of work, not two regular season games. I know we live in a NOW NOW society, but im just saying, lets give Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots some slack, they have, and continue to accomplish a lot, and will continue to do so.
Now if a similar type game happens when the two meet in January thats a different story.
