Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!"

Gore, who was introduced by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, said the world faces a "full-scale climate emergency that threatens the future of civilization on earth."

Gore showed computer-generated projections of ocean water rushing in to submerge the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, parts of China, India and other nations, should ice shelves in Antarctica or Greenland melt and slip into the sea.

"The planet itself will do nicely, thank you very much what is at risk is human civilization," Gore said. After a series of Q& A with the audience, which had little to do with global warming and more about his political future, Annan bid "adios" to Gore.

Then, Gore had his staff opened a stack of cardboard boxes to begin selling his new book, "An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It," $19.95, to the U.N. diplomats.

I don't know why Gore would introduce something like this, his work on the environment has been critical. There was an article in today's Chicago paper on the use of air conditioners in the artic. So, while Gore may have a lapse of judgement, there is still reason to be alarmed with global warming.

Apparantly global warming gets treated by Democrats the way terrorism gets treated by Republicans: a good way to scare people. Too bad because they each have good underlying points.

The reason Algore brought this up is because he is a scientific illeterate and demagogue who can't help lying. He should have stuck with the internet.

Well, I'm a Global Warming skeptic. A skeptic in the sense that I don't feel we know enough about the history of the Earth's climate to cleary define the causes of climate change. I'm all for protecting the environment, that's for darned sure, but the Earth has been around for hundreds of millions of years, and we are supposed to take a 100 year sample of inconsistent weather patterns, and unproven logic, as a factual means of determining what the root causes are? Sounds like a reach to me. The problem with this issue is like most. Each side has it's position, they've politicized it, and refuse to openly, and objectively discuss their conclusions. I think the MSM is clearly biased on this issue. I think an open debate would be something worthwhile. But it has to be an objective view, and not one where each side is simply trying to push its agenda, as opposed to being enlightened to whatever it is that may actually be true.

Excerpt:

Observational evidence does not support today's computer climate models, so there is little reason to trust model predictions of the future. Yet this is precisely what the United Nations did in creating and promoting Kyoto and still does in the alarmist forecasts on which Canada's climate policies are based. Even if the climate models were realistic, the environmental impact of Canada delaying implementation of Kyoto or other greenhouse-gas reduction schemes, pending completion of consultations, would be insignificant. Directing your government to convene balanced, open hearings as soon as possible would be a most prudent and responsible course of action.

While the confident pronouncements of scientifically unqualified environmental groups may provide for sensational .headlines, they are no basis for mature policy formulation. The study of global climate change is, as you have said, an "emerging science," one that is perhaps the most complex ever tackled. It may be many years yet before we properly understand the Earth's climate system. Nevertheless, significant advances have been made since the protocol was created, many of which are taking us away from a concern about increasing greenhouse gases. If, back in the mid-1990s, we knew what we know today about climate, Kyoto would almost certainly not exist, because we would have concluded it was not necessary.

Good point...I think it's safe to say everything contributes to Global Warming. For all practical purposes, perhaps it was inevitable from the beginning of modern man. I'm sure natural factors contribute just as much as man made factors. We should do all we can within reason to help with global warming. We had good reason to start in the 70's and yet we do little.

Quick, someone explain to me why Mars is warming...

Mars Emerging from Ice Age, Data Suggest

Scientists have suspected in recent years that Mars might be undergoing some sort of global warming. New data points to the possibility it is emerging from an ice age.

NASA's Mars Odyssey orbiter has been surveying the planet for nearly a full Martian year now, and it has spotted seasonal changes like the advance and retreat of polar ice. It's also gathering data of a possible longer trend.

There appears to be too much frozen water at low-latitude regions -- away from the frigid poles -- given the current climate of Mars. The situation is not in equilibrium, said William Feldman of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

"One explanation could be that Mars is just coming out of an ice age," Feldman said. "In some low-latitude areas, the ice has already dissipated. In others, that process is slower and hasn't reached an equilibrium yet. Those areas are like the patches of snow you sometimes see persisting in protected spots long after the last snowfall of the winter."

Good God almighty, what would have happened to America if this
dip ***** Gore had ever been elected President.

Clinton picked him for a Vice President because Hillary knew he was a blubbering moron and would stay out of their hair.

When Gore found out about Monica he ran out into the Rose Garden and had sex with an Apple Tree.
