VIDEO: Debate on Al-Jazeera, Qatar
Someone posted this in a forum I moderate. It's quite fascinating. It's a cut of a debate that was being held on Al-Jazeera Qatar. It's in Arabic, but it has English subtitles. I'm amazed the woman said what she said. My guess is she'll be dead soon. It is a must see.
here is the entire post:
This is a discussion (in Arabic, with subtitles) between an Arab-American woman and some Muslim religious figures that appeared (I think) on al-Jazeera. Definitely a must-see:
My favorite part was this:
Her: I am not a Christian, Muslim, or a Jew. I am a secular human being. I do not believe in the supernatural. But I respect others rights to believe in it.
Mullah: Are you a heratic?
Her: You can say whatever you like.
Mullah: If you are a heratic, there is no point in rebuking you, since you have blasphemed against Islam, the Prophet, and the Koran. These are personal matters that do not concern you.
Her: Brother, you can believe in stones, as long as you don't throw them at me. You are free to worship whoever you want. But other people's beliefs are not your concern, whether they believe that the Messiah is God, son of Mary, or that Satan is God, son of Mary. Let people have their beliefs.
I also found it mildly amusing that the background and format is eerily similar to Fox News.
Re: VIDEO: Debate on Al-Jazeera, Qatar
I found a NY Times article on the woman in the video. Quite an interesting read.
Memri said the clip of her February appearance had been viewed more than a million times.
"The clash we are witnessing around the world is not a clash of religions or a clash of civilizations," Dr. Sultan said. "It is a clash between two opposites, between two eras. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality."
