OT: Falcons want a new stadium too

Full disclosure: I haven't been to Atlanta since I was 5 or 6 years old, so I must admit I've never seen the Georgia Dome, but come on, the thing was built in 1992. If it were a person it'd be just turning old enough to vote this year, and the Falcons need a new place?!

I thought it was ridiculous that the Vikings wanted a new stadium, and theirs was built in '82. Sheesh.

Just one more reason to love Bob Kraft. He could have made himself more money than most of us dream of by letting the Patriots out of their lease, but instead he bought the team, than put up most of the dough for a new stadium (which let's be honest, was desperately needed) HIMSELF. :)

I hope they get it. There is no reason whatsoever why a football team in Atlanta GA has to play indoors. If they must, let them build a retractable roof like in Houston & Arizona. The Superdome in NO should have a retractable roof, too.

BTW, does the Palace in Dallas have a retractable roof?

I think the roof is semi retractable, but it has huge doors on eitherside to let air flow through on night games etc.

I think it's at least partially open all the time, because they insisted on having that stupid hole in the roof - like in the old one - so "God could watch them." I still say if God really did watch He'd send a few precisely-aimed lightning bolts...

There are several very irritating themes that have infected this board.

The "Robert Kraft is cheap" theme is the most bogus of all of them. As fans, we should thank our stars that our ownership didn't tag taxpayers with hundreds of millions of dollars in debt for the new stadium.

Also, the complaining about parking is equally bogus. Fans not taxpayers should pay.

Ask anyone in Allegheny County about stadium debt.

It's not semi retractable in Atlanta. I live in the Atl and get to about 2-3 games a year.

I'm not a Falcons fan, obviously, but do enjoy seeing some of the AFC teams when they are in town.

No big doors at the Dome either. Completely enclosed.

They need a new stadium, the spot they have picked is currently a closed Ford plant on the North East side of the city. Good location - on the highway and adjacent to the Rapid Transit system in Atlanta, MARTA.

The poster was asking about the roof in Dallas, not Atl and the poster who responded was talking about the stadium in Dallas, again not Atl.

Why do they need a new one though? Since you live there and have actually been to the place, you can probably shed some light on this.

Personally I think it would make more sense for them to stay indoors due to the heat, unless you're thinking of it as a home advantage in the way winter weather is to NE and Green Bay.

Yea, I got that - I was just clarifying that the G Dome has none of those options. Sorry for the confusion.
