Brady texted support to Stallworth after accident; more details from MMQB

Donovan McNabb trade impacts entire NFL, draft - Peter King - SI.com

Quote:

He served his time -- in solitary confinement mostly -- at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, hard by Miami International Airport. He read, mostly, and wrote in a journal. He read the 9/11 Commission Report and a spiritual novel about a man who meets God (The Shack) and a book about Albert Einstein's thoughts about the planet (The World As I See It) and his Bible. He had correspondence from Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel, his old bosses in Cleveland; from Steve Spagnuolo, who he'd known in Philadelphia. Chad Ocho Cinco ("I still laugh when I hear him called that,'' Stallworth said) visited, as did his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, his mom, his brother, attorney David Cornwell and a good friend from Cleveland, former Browns communications director Amy Palcic.

...

Last thing: A text message arrived to Stallworth's phone on the day of the accident. It read, "A lot of people know the kind of person you are. You're a good person.''

Tom Brady, his quarterback in 2007.

Stallworth may be a good teammate, but he drank and drove and killed someone. It showed a lack of caring for others. Personally, i have no use for people like that because he got what amounted to a slap on the wrist while the family has to suffer for the rest of their lives without their loved one.

He went out and had a couple of drinks at dinner then drove after that. He wasn't tanked. What happened was a freak accident that was unfortunate for the guy he hit as well as Stallworth. So let me guess, you've never had a couple of glasses of wine while at dinner with family or friends and then drove home?

EDIT: And it's going to be funny to see some of the responses for this. I guess Brady is going to be called a "P.O.S." and a "piece of garbage" for supporting such a heartless murdering scumbag, right?

You need to lay off this guy. Just like KontradictioN said, Stallworth wasn't tanked.

Maybe you should learn a bit more about how the OUI laws have changed since 2003, for good and bad, before you cast judgements. Hit a person while you're driving with a blood alcohol level of .07, and its a just a terrible tragedy. Hit a person while you're driving with a blood alcohol level of .08, and you're a dirty, irresponsible, murdering scumbag.

Sure, Stallworth's blood alcohol was higher than .08 - but he wasn't roaring drunk and the alcohol might not have even been a factor in the accident. But he'll pay for it nonetheless. Fair application of the law, right?

Well I officially call Stallworth a liar. He said he only had four shots, but a couple hours later blew a .126. Un-possible.

Edit: If he was really sorry about it, he wouldn't continue to lie about the situation. In my eyes, this makes him a bigger d-bag.

His alcohol level was over the legal limit. Freak accident or not, that's showing poor judgment on his part to drive under the circumstance and a person is dead because of it.

No. The guy he hit actually jumped over a jersey barrier to get on to that causeway. He had no business being there, and was putting is life in danger. Stallworth flashed his highbeams honked his horn but couldn't take evasive action because it was a one-lane road with a barrier. There is blame to be found on both sides.

Wrong. The person in question would have been dead regardless of whether or not Stallworth was drinking. He stepped in the road in front of an oncoming car. While it was a poor decision to drive under the influence, there is little doubt that the accident would have happened regardless of whether or not he had a couple before the accident occured. If you haven't yet, I strongly encourage you to listen to Stallworth's 911 call.

He displayed poor judgement that night and made a terrible mistake. I don't think though that it means he has an outright lack of caring for others. If he goes out and gets another DUI, whether somebody is harmed or not, then I'd definitely begin to suspect the same. But IMO the guy deserves a 2nd chance.
