Neal and Mankins by the numbers

Steven Neal played great in 2009

I've read threads on here suggesting that he had a very poor 2009 season. And, I wondered why NE would resign him if that was the case.

If this analysis is correct it would explain why he is back.

Thanks for the link!

I had a quick scout through to see if there we any obvious tactical clues as to why our O-line isn't able to consistently open holes in the running game.

Vollmer is a much better option at RT in terms of running the ball.

I have to admit some surprise as to how low Matt light was ranked for pass protection - I guessed he would be a liability in run blocking.

Its no great surprise to see Koppen down at #18 as far as centre's go - this would be an area I hope we can upgrade this year - I don't think his chemistry with Brady is worth taking the hit his lack of athletic ability of now causing us.

By those stats Neal, Vollmer, and Mankins were the Pats' only above-mediocre OL last season.

Doesn't really surprise me. I always thought the commonly accepted view on Neal was that he was a VERY good guard, just can't always be relied upon to stay on the field.

I'm as big a fan of Neal as anybody, but that's the site that claims Matt Roth and Aaron Kampman had better seasons at 3-4 OLB than Elvis Dumervil.

I'm skeptical about every one of their lists.

if this method of analysis is correct, kelley washington is better than randy moss

garrard is way better than Brady, those lists are spot on

Koppen looks really bad in this analysis.

Neal is a very agile, physical guard. Pats think so too. When he is out there, IMO the running game seems better.

its never been about neal's ability as a player.......he's been awesome to watch......

but he's broken down......they may get lucky to get another year out of him, maybe even 2.....maybe they will platoon him with his heir apparent
