Nigerian Terror Suspect Is Talking, Officials Say

He's talking again. Apparently his family has convinced him.

Quote:

WASHINGTON (Feb. 2) -- The Nigerian man accused of trying to use a bomb hidden in his underwear to bring down a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day has been cooperating with investigators since last week, discussing his contacts in Yemen and providing intelligence in multiple terrorism investigations, officials said Tuesday.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's cooperation could prove to be a national security victory and a political vindication for President Barack Obama, who has been under fire from lawmakers who contend the administration botched the case by giving Abdulmutallab the right to remain silent, rather than interrogating him as a military prisoner.

God I hope they aren't hurting him or offending him, sounds like a bunch of ***** to get Obama off the hook, if it's true his family better start looking over their shoulders, the head hunters will now be after them.

I think its political leak to save face. He clamed up after given his rights if you remember. It was a hot topic on the cable shows last night where civilian trial advocates were all saying, "see you can still get all the info you need even when you’re protected under Miranda rights". Of course the right said sure, but it's a month too late and we could have lost valuable time unraveling possible future attacks.

His family is telling him to talk, we shouldn't let the terroist know he is talking. The leak is to deflect the criticism the administration was taking for not interrogating him initially.

If he is talking, then his lawyer better already have a deal in place, or he should be disbarred.

This is obviously a farce from the Obama administration. They not only read this guy his Miranda rights, they gave him a lawyer, and once you have a lawyer, then you can not question the suspect WITHOUT the lawyer being present. SO anything he says is useless.

Oh, you mean like the Bush administration did with Richard Reid?

Quote:

Republicans may have a hard time keeping up their talking point about how reading Miranda rights to the Christmas Day bomber represented a dangerous new direction under President Barack Obama.

It turns out that that back in December 2001, Richard Reid — the “shoe bomber” — was read or reminded of his Miranda rights four times in two days, beginning five minutes after being taken into custody.

Furthermore, the Bush administration specifically rejected the idea of a military tribunal — another step that Republicans have argued should have been taken in the case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to bring down Northwest Flight 253 over Detroit on Christmas Day and was read his rights after 50 minutes of FBI questioning.

Sucks for you guys. Another talking point, circling the drain.
