Boston to the Bayou - The Boston Globe
So when the Saints beat the Colts this coming Sunday, we'll have had a "hand" in that victory. ;) |

I hope to god they pull off the win. It would be nice to see Manning get beat on for 60 minutes too, not injured, but helped up off the turf by a lineman or 5 all game long would be nice.

Hoping the Patriots will emulate the Patriots success in the future.

Re: Globe: Payton rebuilt Saints with Patriots in mind
About those contracts, the grass is not always greener.
The money offered to Branch was not all that much lower than what he got, but when you look at players like Givens, Ty Law, and Branch and compare them to Bruschi, you realize that taking less to stay with the Patriots could mean you end up making more. Givens and Branch got the up front signing bonuses they wanted but if they had taken a little less, they might be looking at big second contracts instead of getting released from their first contracts. Ty Law never made back the money he rejected from the Patriots. It may work out for Asante but the fact is, a guy like Bruschi took less and played for 14 or 15 years, and he was NEVER cut and forced to play for the veteran minimum, like almost every other old veteran, even the ex-Pro Bowlers. Over the span of his career, he made more than a guy like Takeo Spikes who came in at around the same time and supposedly cashed out in Buffalo, only to be cut from them and to sign for minimal dollars elsewhere, not to mention the fact that Bruschi never doled out a 5-10% commission to an agent because he knew he was taking less to stay with the Patriots so there was no reason to negotiate anything. |
