Re: OT: Bobby April is a coaching free agent
We should examine our special teams in more detail. I believe that our punt and kick COVERAGE is much better than average.
I don't think the production of the kicker (solid) and punter (not so solid) are a function of the coach. It is in our return game that we are belwo average, although I believe that our average return yardage isn't terrible. The question is whether the issue is blocking or our returners. We had a top punter returner in Welker and struggled to find a kick returner. Perhaps we need work on blocking schemes. Perhaps we would have been better off with Hobbs returning kicks. It seems likely that both are true. In any case, I don't think changing the special teams coach is necessary or the answer to improving the return game. For example, drafting Spiller likely would do a lot more. |

Besides, Bill just hired someone new this past off-season; and we all know how loyal he is, to a fault. |
