What's up with Gonzo?
They keep talking about trading for Adrian Gonzalez and I think it would be one hell of a trade. The red sox are being asked for Bucholz and either casey kelley or westmoreland.....I wouldn't give up kelley but Bucholz and westmoreland for Gonzo would be money I think......He is a great hitter and fielder and not that young.....Are we putting such an emphasis on our young "hopefuls" that we aren't going to get a proven young veteran.....This in my mind is a no brainer as long as kelley isn't involved......I remember back just a year or two that Lars Anderson was supposed to be the untouchable player and he has done jack balls at the pro level......I like the fact of not selling the farm for a player but I don't like the fact of holding onto so many young guys when there is a player of Gonzo's caliber out there in a position of need (expecting youk to move to third).......Thoughts?

Re: What's up with Gonzo?
Well The Sox signed Lackey today and have made an offer to the Cuban FA Aroldis Chapman, that would make Clay available for a trade. They have also supposedly made an offer to M Cameron, Ellsbury to left anyone?
So perhaps it is the Adrian (Gonzo and Beltre) derby to determine 1b & 3b. |
Re: What's up with Gonzo?
I really hoping it's Gonzalez and not beltre....Younger and a better all around player....He is a stud and hitting in this lineup will be sick..

Re: What's up with Gonzo?
Best free agent pitcher available to strengthen the defense, now let's acquire Adrian Gonzalez and strengthen the offense.
Do it Theo. Do it! Shove Granderson right into the Yankees face with Gonzo. |

Re: What's up with Gonzo?
It's going to cost a lot more than Clay Bucholz, and an A ball pitcher, to get Gonzo from the Padres. Gonzo is a beast, and he does it in the league unfriendliest hitters park. Look at what the Phillies dealt for Halladay, and go from there.
I think the Lackey signing was a good one. He's a very good pitcher IMO. I used to hate him, but I've come to respect his ability over the years. My concerns would only be his health, and whether or not his stuff will keep over the life of the contract. He's a pitcher though, and not a thrower, so some decline won't hurt him too much. The Cameron signing tells me that Bay is long gone, as well as possibly Ellsbury. I think Jacoby is now expendable. Cameron is an elite defender, and has some pop, but he K's a ton. Also, he's 37 I think, so at some point, his age could catch up to him. He shows no real signs of that now though. I've always liked him as a player. Good signing for the Sox. They will be better if they keep Bay, or aquire a bat. I think Bay's ship has sailed though. He only return if they trade Jacoby for a bat, but there's no room for Bay, Drew, Ellsbury, Hermedia, and Cameron. |
Re: What's up with Gonzo?
IMO the outfield is done, Cameron, Ellsbury (to left maybe w Reddick waiting in the wings a couple of years out), Drew and Hermedia .
We have the talent needed for Gonzo. THe guy from the Sox who is out in SD knows the talent in the system and a package can be put together. Remember Gonzo is a FA after the 2011 season and SD doesn't have the $$$ to resign him they have mazimumleverage now to get players they can control for awhile at low $$$. |
