Bruschi's ESPN chat this noon

Chat: Chat with Tedy Bruschi - SportsNation - ESPN

You can't argue with success, but I have to say sending players home for being late when there weather and travel problems is overdoing the control issue. Are there problems in the Pats locker room that need to be addressed? Brady did say the team is not tough enough. By the way, thanks for all the great memories.
Tedy Bruschi
(12:02 PM)

I don't think this is coach Belichick overreacting. I think this is an action he took due to other things that have happened througout the course of the year.
secor (NH)

Tedy Player discontent in December - that's a hard one to overcome. Do you sit those players? Are you interested in being cloned?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:03 PM)

I think it depends on how they responded when they came back Thursday and how they worked going on into the week. If you came back with a good attitude, coaches will see that positively and move on to the game.

Scott (Leominster)

Hi Tedy, I think BB may have lost the veterans on this defense after the INDY game what are your thoughts?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:05 PM)

If any veterans were upset about the Indy situation, they should have gotten over it quickly. It's OK to get emotional about coaching decisions, but if you don't move on, you have problems.
Jon (Stoughton, MA)

Tedy, thoughts on if BB should deactivate Adalius Thomas for the rest of the year?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:07 PM)

He already deactivated him once, and that's before he mouthed off. I think that's inevitable.
JS (Foxboro)

How big of a bust has Adalius Thomas been?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:08 PM)

I know the coaches have expected a lot more out of him. He started out gangbusters with the INT for a TD against San Diego. I think that's what everyone has expected from him. This year has certainly been a disappointment.
Dick (Hudson)

With Adalius Thomas's lack of production; and now apparently becoming a cancer to the team can the Patriots just cut there ties with him at this point in the season? Also, how do you think Belichick handled his comments he made in the media yesterday?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:10 PM)

Coach Belichick always handles situations with players in house. I think that's the best thing he can do is keep it out of the media on his part. Cutting ties with Adalius now, the Patriots wouldn't get anything for him. Do they try to trade him in the offseason? Or make an example of him to the other players and just deactivate him the rest of the year? That's up to coach Belichick. We'll see what he does, because it's on Belichick now.
Todd (Nh)

Tedy, how would you have reacted in the locker to AD's insubordination?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:11 PM)

As a former leader on that team, I definitely would have confronted him.

Robb (Cary NC)

Tedy, who should be a vocal leadership role on defense. Is Mayo too young to get them in line?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:13 PM)

Mayo's doing the best he can, but he's still only in his second year. There is still a lot he has to learn in terms of leadership. The problem is it seems like Adalius is the most vocal.

A lot of insights, as usual. I think his take on the situation is the best I've read.

these were even more telling

How will BB react to this challenge?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:15 PM)

That's a great question. It's clearly on him now. What's he do with a player that publically criticizes your disciplinary tatics? I'm waiting for his reaction myself. It should be stiff.
Gary (Boston)

Teddy, In the past I had heard you say that the fans and the media don't know what is really going on the locker room. From the outside things aren't looking so good right now. Do you think the things that are going on behind the scenes right now are positive or negative? Is all this stuff we are seeing ripping the team apart or pulling it together?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:18 PM)

Gary, in the past, I said that, because we kept everything in house. Right now, Adalius clearly is not doing that. So, actually, you fans definitely know what's going on now. This is definitely a negative influence on the lockerroom. I think it definitely does have a possibility of dividing the lockerroom. The fans are getting a realistic taste of the drama going on right now, thanks to Adalius' public remarks. Welcome to an NFL lockerroom.
Dan (Boston)

forget the defensive leaders, what about the team leaders? Should guys like Brady be speaking up?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:19 PM)

Right now, anybody speaking out positively would be a good thing. Somebody should step forward and contradict the tone that's coming from Adalius Thomas
.
i bet no one wants to discuss it any longer but hope someone addressed it privately.

What do you think about the punishment? It was snowing afterall. Deserved?
Tedy Bruschi
(12:26 PM)

Hank, you're in Buffalo, you know about snow. Don't you know what to do? The punishment was well-deserved. To get out of slumps, you need to work even harder. If you have an 8 o'clock meeting, you should have been there at 7 a.m. in the first place. Bill has done things like this before, it's just never been through the media. It's always been kept in house. And the message has always been well received by other teammates.

AD needs to get kicked off this team in a hurry. And he can take Burgess and Springs with him. Sad that inmates are now running the place. Get these people out and we might have a chance.

Re: Bruschi's ESPN chat this noon

I gather from what Ted is saying is that Thomas is running wild, undercutting BB as he pleases and no one has the guts/stones to confront him in the locker room. Man, I wish Vrabel was still here.
