Opinion: Calm the heck down

I've seen people say on this forum, "The defense has been sub-par for several years now." Get yourself some perspective, you seem like just another Pats fan who can't beyond the emotions of a game.

The Patriots, even after giving up 35 points against the Colts, are 3RD IN POINTS ALLOWED THIS YEAR. They were 8th in points allowed last year, and the year before they were 4th. Sure, the Pats D over the past few years may have not been up to your standards. But only to a completely spoiled Patriots fan would those number be "sub-par." Give me a break, step outside your own frustrated bubble for just one second. In no way has the Patriots D been "subpar." That is simply factually untrue.

I've had a few beers at this point , so forgive my honesty, but you all really need to calm down. We lost in an unfortunate way against the best team in the league...and we have many weeks to go to improve. Us and the Colts are the best teams in the league, and we dominated for a long time in this game. We have a very good chance to go far in the playoffs, perhaps win it all. To blame a team that has put up performances that nearly every other team would give anything up for over the past year is sad as fans. Frankly, you all need to get a grip.

Sure, everyone is welcome to criticize. But I completely disagree that any aspect of our team over the past few years has been hugely flawed. Sure, we've had some faults, but that's a NFL-wide fact, EVERY team has flaws. You all need to get a grip. This team is going to have flaws. The 2001 team had flaws, the 2003 team had flaws, and the 2004 team had flaws. The only team that didn't have any huge flaws was the 2007 team (besides a significant run game)...and we all know how that ended. So please guys, stop crying chicken little. We still have a season ahead of us, although we probably lost home field advantage. Then again, look at what the Giants did. Moreover, Morris and Taylor will be back by the playoff push...and we all know how much that run game was needed at the end of the game.

We are in GREAT SHAPE so far. We showed we can stick it with the best team in the league. Can't wait to see how the season unfolds.

We all have a right to criticize. But to claim that we as a team are really losing it is absurd. We have a top 5 team in the league, most likely a top 2 team. And that's with many weeks to go. Can't wait to see how everything unfolds. Let's hope we can strengthen weaknesses and get healthy as we near the playoff push.

Fact is: Everyone in this forum demands perfection. This is fair, we all sit here on a fat computer chair and a comfortable couch, and whether we got ot the game or not, we don't make a huge difference. Every team in this league has flaws, and every team moves on. We lost games in 2001,2003,2004. Look at the superbowl champs the past few years, they all had flaws and they all lost games. I see people pointing out flaws in our game and saying that we will never get far in the playoffs. That is patently absurd.

I don't blame anyone here, and considering it's a forum I don't expect otherwise, but in my personal opinion, the people in this forum really need to get a grib on not only the standard in the NFL, but a reasonable standard for our team as well. No one can be perfect. And, considering the last couple years, those who are perfect don't get the final prize anyways. It's a long year, and everyone has flaws. Teams change, people grow, that's the way it is in the NFL. I can't help but label those who watch this loss and predict the future with any form of certainty as anything but a bandwagoner. Sorry to come out so harsh (and I expect significant whiplash), but really guys, get a hold of yourself.

Dude, do everyone a favor: put that six-pack down and get out of your car.

Skri, you are absolutely right. We should be thankful for having this team to root for. People have to understand, that its practically impossible to win SB each and every year. All we can ask for is a team to compete well every year.

I know right. People act like the defenses we had in the dynasty years never gave up points. Our best defense in all of BB's years got lit up in the Super Bowl by Jake friggin Delhomme. Yet this defense sucks after one poor performance (it's not even that bad when you consider the officiating, the major risk that backfired, and amount of 3 and outs by our offense). People are so overreactive it's comical. Bottom line is we will be in the playoffs and we will be a force to reckoned with once again.

Ask any playoff team who they'd least want to see in January and there's a chance they'll say Manning and the Colts, but I'd be willing to bet most would say us.

For better or worse, not only have i not been in a car, but I've in Africa and have been paying about $40 a game to watch each game online. Can't wait to get home in a couple weeks and be able to watch on T.V.

Good post skri. This is what happens when 2 of the best teams in the league get together.

some fans act like every game is life and death. in fact some even act like every PLAY is life and death and if they want to watch the games that way it is fine. it was a tough loss but as a fan i have moved on from it. no matter how bad of a loss this ranks as it does not even come close to the super bowl loss. no single loss will ever be as bad as that one, and no regular season loss can even come close. the patriots have won their share of close games over the years and they have lost some also. you cant win all the close games but the patriots have won more than most. i just wish they would start winning more against indy they have lost the last 4 games to indy by a TD or less.

They'll bounce back. I have complete faith in Bill Belichick. Everyone thought he lost his mind when he cut Lawyer Milloy and the Bills torched the Pats 31-0 a few days later. We all know how that turned out.

There's no one in the NFL I would rather have on the sideline than BB.

Wow, sobriety feels a bit different. The original post was incredibly longwinded and repetitive. I guess what I meant to say in a single sentence is this:

People demand perfect. When posters notice any flaw on our team, it is assumed that our team will not succeed. But fans like us need to realize that every single team in the NFL has flaws. The steelers last year had flaws, the giants the year before, the list goes on. People need to realize that a team will never be perfect, and that to win it all, a team doesn't need to perfect. And, finally, that each game represents a small sample, and that teams inevitably change over the course of a season.
