France's Cultural Diversity Problems Continue

PARIS -- A gang of more than 20 youths -- thought to be North African immigrants -- terrorized hundreds of train passengers in a rampage of violence, robbery and sexual assault on New Year's Day, French officials said yesterday.
The gang of between 20 and 30 youths boarded the train, heading from Nice on the French Riviera to Lyon, in eastern France, early on Jan. 1, as it carried 600 passengers home from New Year's Eve partying overnight.
A 20-year-old woman cornered by several of the marauders was sexually molested.
"It was a real scene of pillage on the train," said the regional state prosecutor, Dominique Luigi, adding that the passengers were in a state of "panic."
"They told me there had been groping. They talked about sexual assaults. They were really traumatized," she said.
The train resumed its journey with the heavy police presence on board but, just before Marseille, the youths pulled the emergency stop and many escaped.
Only three -- two 19-year-old Moroccans and a minor, all living in France -- were arrested. Both men were being held for robbery and one also was facing charges of sexual assault. The minor was to be judged separately.
Three others -- a man and two boys -- were arrested briefly in Marseille but were released despite reports they were carrying a knife, a screwdriver and a small amount of hashish.

The Liberals here are probably immensly relived that the rapists got away scot free.

I always thought it curious that women are required to cover their heads in Muslim countries even if they're visiting Christians or Mormons, and if they live there, they are expected to do it all the time forever. But when Muslims move to France, they feel they have the right to wear their Muslim clothes and protest the Franco-fication rules. I'm not in favor of those laws in either case, but this time, it's the Muslims who impose the cultural double-standard. Religious nuts...

Actually, ELOrocks, its liberals who fought for women's rights and conservatives who fought against it. While conservatives would never condone African immigrants engaging in sexual assault, they certainly condoned sexual assault on women who were dressed provocatively. In the 1970s and later, there were several prominent cases where conservative judges were lenient on someone who committed sexual assault because the victim was wearing a mini-skirt, for example. If you are not the type to treat women as sex objects, you can thank liberalism for that -- for educating you and passing laws to discourage sexual harrasment.

You live in fantasy land, god go look for the plane!

Everyone is in favor of woman making just as much and being treated equally. You examples in the post are just wrong or maybe just meant to lie to prove a point.

Women can thank liberalism for their ability to commit murder, and men can thank idiotic liberalism for their diminished role in family planning. While liberalism doesn't hate just men it has been proven to be an equal opportunity hater to everyone. Maybe thats why you embrace it, it sucks for EVERYONE

You should read up on the history of women's rights, especially the Women's Liberation movement, which made the issues of sexual harassment, equal treatment of women, and equal pay major issues. Conservatives actively opposed women's rights and fought the Equal Rights Amendment by making such ludicrous claims that it would require men and women to use the same public bathrooms. The right-wing in the 70s was just as sleazy and dishonest as it is today, but of course it lost, and even people like you are now very liberal when it comes to women being treated equally. Women's rights are abslutely an accomplishment of the liberal agenda, and I challenge you to prove otherwise.

That's too bizarre to respond to.

There is no question that liberalism in its best sense helped pioneer civil rights for black folk, folks 'playing for the other team', and women's rights. How liberalism got perverted into defending dictatorships is a sad more recent development.

Patters 01-06-2006 09:44 AM

Pissah, what dictatorships are you talking about? Saudi Arabia? Pakistan? Kuwait? Liberals tend to believe that countries need to evolve at their own pace, with primarily aid and education being used to promote change. Neocons tend to oppose foreign aid and education to promote change, believing what's a few thousand American lives if we can achieve change more quickly. Conservatives tend to believe that we should simply stay home and mind our own business.

That said, let's face it, at the foreign policy level, politics involves expediency, and you can find examples of every president supporting and defending dictatorships.

Kathleen Wiley, Juanita Broderick, Jennifer Flowers, Monica, Joan Kenndy, Jackie Kennedy, Mary Jo Kopechene, and Kathleen Wileys Cat, wonder what they will think if they read that post Patters, of course Mary Jo and Jackie won't see it.

"Mommy"
"Yes Mary"
"Can Tommy watch TV in my room with me"?
"Is he a Liberal Democrat Dear"
"Yes Mom"
"OK"
