Pakistan sets its sights on Taliban sanctuary

About frickin TIME....

Lets concentrate on those who we say hit us on 9-11, and not create a "terror industrial complex"

Pakistan sets its sights on Taliban sanctuary - Yahoo! News

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani military is setting its sights on the Taliban's remote sanctuary after nearly two weeks of big bombings across the country, as hundreds flee the Afghan border region each day before what promises to be the army's riskiest offensive yet.

With the first snows of winter less than two months away, the army has limited time to mount a major ground attack. The U.S. is racing to send in night vision goggles and other equipment. The Pakistani military insists it's sealing off supply and escape routes, forcing the militants to rely on goat paths.

The army has tried three times since 2001 to dislodge Taliban fighters from their stronghold in South Waziristan, part of the lawless tribal area along the border. All three previous attempts ended in negotiated truces that left the Taliban in control.

This time, however, military spokesman Gen. Athar Abbas said there will be no negotiations for fear any deals would be seen as a failure and could jeopardize gains won last spring when Pakistani soldiers wrested control of the Swat Valley, elsewhere in the northwest.

I'll believe it all when I see it. Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence run that country and there's a fine line between them, the Pakistan military, the Pakistan government and the Taliban. many insiders say the ISI is the government of the country. We'll see - I think this is a show for the public and not much is going to change except perhaps the size of the territory allotted.

Pakistan is no weakling country ... they could easily bomb the crap out of the mountanous areas ... yet they don't. Fear of alienating the public and of civil war has created that fine line.

Also ... for the record ... not a hijack ... Congress never approved the illegal bombings in Pakistan started by Bush and continued by Obama. He received a Nobel Prize while he waged an illegal war ... just saying.

This really has nothing to do with the WARS that were handed to Obama. (16 hijackers = invasion of 2 nations and no bin laden)

Its odd....

Pakistan offered to turn Bin Laden in to the United States provided that we had some evidence that OBL was behind 9-11. We said we would produce the evidence, and came up with a forged video....8 months later. Its no wonder why they don't want to deal with us, but its also becoming apparent that the Taliban want nothing more than to control that region of 'tweener-ville' they occupy. Its also pretty clear that all they do is blow $#!T up and cause fear....sound familiar?

all and all, I gotta respect them for attempting to cut these terrorists off, but it might be too little too late.

PS - If Bin Laden was found out to be dead.....would we withdraw from the region? Should we?

We never should have undermined Mushareff's power. Pakistan is as close as ever to falling apart. Hope they succeed.

Obama to his credit does not give the OBL stuff any legs ... Bush gave him too much credit, though he had to puff up that whole mess. If we had gotten OBL ... like what you refer to, I don't think Bush would have done anything different and I don't think it would affect what we see today.

OBL or whomever - these people have existed and will continue to exist. They are hardcore Islamic people who have an industry going and they will always find support and money. It's rather sad that women don't rise up against the movement but they are suicide bombers now - makes no sense to us. They will also always be supported as the enemy to someone for a price.
