After 4 Games Where Are The Weaknesses?

The team will continue to develop. I don't expect us to have a major weakness coming out of the bye. Even as of now, I don't see much.

OFFENSE
inexperienced backup QB
ineffective #3 wide receiver (Watson has picked up the slack)

DEFENSE
lack of depth at linebacker (obviously Mayo coming back will help)

SPECIAL TEAMS
ineffective returners (or blockers; it is difficult to see which)

Punter's situational mindset (trying to kick field goals instead of downing inside the 20).

Special teams (FG Unit aside). I know we've had some gnarly plays on kick coverage, but... we've had some sketchy kick coverage too.

Return game is iffy.

Otherwise, the weaknesses are hard to spot. I'm hoping to rewatch the game later tonight (this morning, I guess).

Passing game.

If you double Moss, Brady has Welker and that's it. Watson, Morris, and the 2001 offense make a comeback.

I like the message sent to Galloway. On the other hand, we reall do need him to play instead of Aiken.

Play selection has been comme ci comme cia
Hanson has been comme ci comme ca
Return units have been poor

Pretty sure everything else has been good IMO

We have 2 TD's as a result of our kick coverage units. Alexander had a great play today.

defense:

the safeties are playing lights out right now....and hopefully get better w/ chung later on

cb's: weve usually been stranding these guys on islands, and for the most part theyve help up

lb's: OK now, with Mayo back VERY GOOD

DL: missing seymour a little bit, but not enough, ppl stepping up

offense: brady is making his way back

O-line is usually great, need better run blocking sometimes

TE's: seem to be doing well

rb's: not bad, take what the O line provides, taylors best so far

WR: WEAKNESS.....sure randy and welker, but u need a 3rd WR....edelman is OK, but really galloway is a much better option, hopefully after this week everything pans out with him....

ST: OK, could really be better....punter is a PROBLEM, cmon man, inside the 20? just ONCE?

but for offense and defense, our only weakness is at WR....

1) Kickoff Coverage - they've allowed more decent returns this year than I remember in the last two - I'll have to research it and see how accurate that is. But I can say I don't remember Steve Gostkowski in past years being involved in or nearly making a tackle as much as he has been this year.

2) Depth at receiver - Welker being gone made it clear that Brady relies on him. I don't know what's going to happen with Galloway, but that aside Brady's not where he needs to be yet with Aiken either. Thankfully Edelman is developing well, but they're one injury away from being in tough shape here.

3) It's too early to give up on Maroney - if he can't run the ball effectively the one thing I can say (if you can set your hatred for him aside) is that we've seen him contribute in other areas. He's been decent on kickoff returns, but more importantly he really has been pretty effective catching the ball out of the backfield. If you look at several plays he's made (including that 30 yard one that was nullified by that ridiculous holding penalty) he's actually decent catching the ball in the open field and is elusive in that sense. It's too bad he's struggling to read the hole at the line of scrimmage - but given space he's still able to gain positive yards. Taylor got knicked today - so those who hate him need to admit that they're still going to need him. As we've learned in recent years they need depth at this position.

4) Depth in the secondary - We watched another one go down today and it seems like every other week someone is getting banged up. Although the injuries today allowed us to see some good things from Butler. Guys can't get better without experience, nor can they get their shot without an opportunity. Needless to say he was a pleasure to watch today but one would hope that this group doesn't get any thinner.

Otherwise the defense is playing better than we could have asked for and they're coming along offensively. I like the direction they're heading in.

I still think the DB's give up a little too much of a cushion on passing plays, but that's being pedantic. Hanson's punting hasn't been crash hot.

Rest has been covered.

To be fair, I have to say whatever they are doing to make up for enough, or the right fit at linebacker, is working. I noticed Guyton rising to the occasion today and the safety troika is playing great.
