Right-Wingers Root Against U.S., Then Celebrate Olympic Bid Failure

Their hatred of Obama apparently overpowers their supposed love of country.

Although the United States sent a high-powered delegation to make a last-ditch effort to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled out the Windy City today. Of the final four cities — which also included Madrid, Toyko, and Rio — Chicago received the fewest votes. In his speech to the IOC in Copenhagen today, President Obama tied the American dream to the Olympic spirit in his pitch for the United States:

" [Chicago is] a bustling metropolis with the warmth of a small town; where the world already comes together every day to live and work and reach for a dream — a dream that no matter who we are, where we come from; no matter what we look like or what hand life has dealt us; with hard work, and discipline, and dedication, we can make it if we try.

That’s not just the American Dream. That is the Olympic spirit. It’s the essence of the Olympic spirit. That’s why we see so much of ourselves in these Games. That’s why we want them in Chicago. That’s why we want them in America.
"

Always looking for a way to bring down Obama, conservatives not only criticized the President’s 15-hour trip, but also spent this week denegrating Chicago, downplaying the Olympics, and rooting against America.

The criticisms have included mocking “fat people” in Chicago, gushing that Rio is just plain “awesome,” and saying that Chicago is too violent and doesn’t deserve the event. Watch a compilation[ Ed: in the window to your right]:

So how will all these conservatives who have been rooting against the United States react now that their rhetoric has become reality? On Twitter, former Bush spokesman Scott Stanzel cautioned Republicans against gloating: “Note to GOP officials/consultants – resist the temptation to pile on about Chicago losing the Olympic bid just because Obama made the pitch.” His message didn’t reach RedState’s Erick Erickson, who immediately wrote:

Hahahahaha. I thought the world would love us more now that Bush was gone. I thought if we whored ourselves out to our enemies, great things would happen. Apparently not.

Bringing the Olympics wasn’t about cronyism. Besides U.S. pride, it was about an event that could have generated $22.5 billion in economic activity and the equivalent of 315,000 new full-time jobs in America.
And Matt Drudge who's apparently so giddy that Chicago won't hosting the olympics that he has half the page dedicated to it and highlighted in red "alert, alert, hysteria!" font, provides us with giant bold heading that reads "The Ego Has Landed" with a link to this article:

Obama had originally planned not to go but changed his mind when it was clear that other leaders wanting their countries to host the 2016 Games would be there.
What a sad joke these idiots are.

I find it somewhat amusing, he had no business pleading to the IOC in such a public way, and shame on his advisers for totally misreading the situation. You send the President over when its already basically in the bag, not to ask pretty please and smile for the cameras. Why is it so bad to find the situation funny? It would be just as funny if W went and got shut down. The pickpockets and kidnappers are dancing in the streets in Rio right now, good for them.

Maybe now he can focus on some less important matters like Afghanistan and health care reform.

It's only "bad" because the right just declared about a week ago that if he went and it wasn't awarded to the U.S. that it would be an "embarrassment" for him. That's why I linked to the article that talked about how all of the leaders of the other countries went too.

The right is trying to frame this as arrogant Obama, showing up alone and presuming that the rest of the world will bow to his demands and then taking it as a sign of lack of respect that they didn't give it to him. Which is just a bunch of BS. He went over to pitch for the Olympics like everyone else, and didn't get it like almost everyone else.

Did you put your boots on when you typed all this stuff ... please already.
He has some of the brightest advisors a President has ever had ... he knew the score weeks ago and he has bigger problems. Sending Michelle was actually the right thing to do or did he think she would get to much press? If I was Michelle I would be mad that he went ... I think he hurt more than he helped.

Thank God we didn't get the Olympics.............. It's economic DISASTER for middle class taxpayers. HERE'S A 2005 ARTICLE that discusses the economic reality of "hosting"

From the article;

Quote:

History has taught us that hosting the Olympics serves as a redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the rich. New York's politicians would have benefited had the city been granted the Games because they could curry favor from the hoteliers, contractors, union leaders and restaurant owners that would have profited. But much of those profits would have come from taking money from middle-class taxpayers who would derive no economic benefit.
I know you are a fan of "redistribution of wealth" but I'm not sure this is the direction you want it to go in.

Seriously, think of something other than politics for a few minutes.

and more;

Quote:

A look at other publicly financed Olympics shows what a debacle they usually are for taxpayers.

Greece was host to the 2004 Summer Games. Seven years before the Games, the cost to host the Olympics was estimated at $1.3 billion. Actual cost: $14 billion. Thanks to the Olympic profligacy, Greece now has a 6% budget deficit, which puts the country in breach of the European Union’s stability pact, and its economic growth rate is projected to slow from 4.2% in 2004 to 2.8% in 2005. The facilities it built for the Games go largely unused.
For me, it's not about politics, but economics.

I do find this Brazilian goof funny though.

They're blaming Bush ...

Quote:

Senator Rowland Burris of Illinois, the Senator who was appointed to fill President Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat, blames George Bush for Chicago not getting the Olympics in 2016. Burris stated in an interview, shortly after the announcement, that the image of the U. S. has been so tarnished in the last 8 years that, even Barack Obama making an unprecedented pitch for the games could not overcome the hatred the world has for us as a result of George Bush.

Bush sucked but would you like to tell me when they loved us before 2000 in the modern era ... oh say since Vietnam or Korea? Other than our huge economy we have not been liked.

It is a less expensive flight on AF1 to Chicago. He could have stepped in and adressed the death of that 16 yr old boy whom was killed eight days ago. No he chose to pander to the IOC on behalf of what, those whom have lined his campaign pockets. It's funny because this guy does'nt care about "his" people. Because he has no people.
