How it looks: Belichick calling plays

Camera has gone to him a few times so far this opening drive. He has a play sheet (which he almost never has) and was shown looking at it and calling it in before a play.

I'm not sure if Belichick is calling the plays or not, but the offense is looking very different in terms of look/plays. They've already called a fake double reverse (wide open Galloway that Brady overthrew), two nice screens, a few good trap runs, more runs than passes, using shot gun only 2 or 3 times all drive.

They missed at least 2 opportunities for a TD due to poor execution by Brady or Galloway, but they ate up 9 minutes of clock.

Solid first drive.

One of those screens was a fake screen to one side first - very 2001-like.

Bill musn't be calling anything now...

He had a roll of papers he always has. He consistently makes notes on them throughout games. Usually about how well the play/coverage succeeded or went wrong. His counterpart is walking around with the same set of folded sheets.

The much maligned Sanders with a turnover. Bill must have called that play...

Aside from this poster's lame sarcasm, I don't think Bill is calling the defense. McGowan made a great play to cause the fumble there. I'm not sure if Belichick's calling the offense either. The offense certainly looks very different in terms of play calls compared to last week. We're actually using Brady under center, pounding the ball with Taylor/Maroney, and using play action, screens, and traps more.

Yes. So why, after pounding the ball in the previous possesion, in the second to last possession, do the Pats come out with that stupid 5 wide? Three plays and punt. And then, on the last possesion, why, with no timeouts do they come out running, using a minute to gain ten yards?

I noticed that the the same thing was happening against the Bills.

Aside from abandoning the run in the red zone a couple of times today, I loved the offensive playcalling. If BB was doing it, O'Brien should take notes. That was a near perfect mix of run and pass. Fred Taylor was a beast and the running game did wonders to take the pressure off Brady.

BB will be calling the O's shots for the rest of this year. It seemed Brady lost confidence in O'brien last week. And say goodbye to Galloway.
