9/11 Remembrance
Friday marks the anniversary of the second most devastating attack on American soil by a foreign entity. I hope that, regardless of your politics, you all put your flags out in remembrance of the men and women who were murdered that day and the Men and Women who have lost their lives since.

Re: 9/11 Remembrance
Six years ago on the second anniversary in 2003 I was in NYC and saw the Towers of Light...and put pen to paper......
Memories of 9/11 http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TZ4zYEBSw1...e_in_light.JPG I refuse to live in fear. I am an American. I will travel whenever I want in this great land of ours undeterred by the threats of others. I will take my children to our treasured landmarks and historical sites. I will not retreat form an adventuresome journey because of others with a disdain for our way of life. It is the legacy of our forefathers who shed their blood on battlefields throughout the world to protect our democratic institutions. I will show my children this country in all its majesty, from the beauty of a Pacific sunset to the bright lights of Broadway to the beacon held high by Lady Liberty. I will show them Ellis Island, the gateway to a new world with the hopes and dreams of millions. This nation was forged by an amalgam of spirited people who believed in self-determination. I will not bow to those who challenge that notion. It dishonors the memory of those who have gone before me. I refuse to let the actions of a few destroy my will. I will show my children the monuments to our presidents who persevered in times of crisis and triumphed over evil. I will show them Arlington National Cemetery and the graves of those who fell in the defense of freedom. I will show them a field in the rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania Where citizen soldiers fought back and gave their lives in the latest struggle. I have seen the horrors of that fateful day. I have watched as flags ruffled in the breeze unbowed as the smoke rose from the ashes. Its pungent odor and acrid smell did not destroy our spirit. I have heard the countless untold stories of heroism that will stay with me forever. To live timidly disgraces their honor. I will keep that dream alive. I refuse to live in fear. I am an American. You should see about getting someone to publish that and setting it up so that the proceeds go to the families who lost loved ones.. Or, even if you were to get it printed and send a copy to the families, I bet they'd appreciate it. |

Re: 9/11 Remembrance
I've posted this a few times on this forum, but here is the U2 performance from Super Bowl XXXVI Halftime Show. Possibly the best performance of all time. I'll never forget turning to my father (whom I had never seen cry) and seeing tears stream down his face as Bono opened his jacket to reveal the American flag...
YouTube - U2 Super Bowl halftime show 2002 - 9/11 Tribute This performance to this day still brings tears to my eyes. EDIT: Click the "HD" button at the bottom right of the video to get the high definition version of it. |

Phoenix 343
When you hear the echo in your head - the sigh of those too sudden dead - When all their screams remain behind to haunt your dreams and fill your mind - When lonely eagle feathers fall - when all you see at night in bed is crumbling wall and dancing flame - Recall the terror without shame - shed the tears then still your fears - and gracefully arise - Arise - and put your tears and fears aside. Put to rest the violence inside. Let the shadows disappear - Let the smoke and fire clear - Hold instead, the memory of once what was - and once will be - for from the ashes that remained - from all we lost we learned - we gained - Some memories, Love, they will not fade - The heroes came - they stayed - They stay. _______________________ There were 2,993 lives lost on 9/11. Most of them had no idea of what was coming. 343 of them knew exactly what they might expect - and they went in anyhow. Most men become heroes by fate or by accident - but not all. Some have simply chosen a way of life which puts them in danger each time the tone sounds or the bells ring. They have agreed with fate to deliberately put themselves in harm's way in order that others may live. They go in places no one else dares to enter - sometimes they don't come out. On 9/11/2001 343 men went in and and didn't come out. They are, in every sense of the word, heroes. Hug a firefighter - tell him "Thank you." Tell your children to tell him so, too. nytimes.com/library/national/091101rescuers.html |

Your dad has a deep heart, and he loves righteousness. God bless him. U2 is a class act; have always liked them. Didn't see that S-Bowl performance, unfortunately; .... actually, I don't get to see much of the NFL, and I miss it. God Bless America. Again. Please. // |
