Carter does have experience with this defense since he played under Saban in Miami.

#1- shadow roster
#2- serious injury to a current player in camp
#3- trade/ cut Green
#4- If his intent is to keep 8 DLs, doenst any other of the remaining kids in camp

BB is just covering the bases and managing his risk.

I thought there was a possibility that Green could get traded this preseason. So that is a possibility. I think with Seymour not practicing and Warren on PUP, Belichick may be getting a contingency plan. Also, he just likes to rotate d-linemen to keep them fresh anyway.

If Green is healthy and going to perform like we had become accustomed to, I wouldn't want to cut/trade him.

LeKevin would be gone for sure...we could carry 7 DL. But I agree its disconcerting we're going after a career starter while two of our DL mainstays are missing practices...

I think this would be another great move by the Pats. Not only does Carter know the 3-4, but he should come at reasonable price.

:)But it's not disconcerting to know that there is an alternative available and BB isn't sticking his head in the sand hoping the team will be fine as is. Maybe BB won't go after him, but I feel better knowing that he's sticking to the way he does things. How many times has he said "if there's a player available who makes this team better, we'll look into it." (paraphrasing). But I know what you're saying that it sucks that there alway seems to be someone hurt even after a long period of rest.

As far as LeKevin- maybe he will get cut. I think the big strike against Green isn't his ability, it's his cap hit. Sign Carter, cut Green, extend Brady, extend/restructure Wilfork... could happen. :confused2: Better yet- trade Green for a 3rd round pick (or even a 4th and a 5th) and lessen the trade implications from Burgess. :)
