How low can you go?

Among the Al Franken fan club the Republican party has reached an all time unfavorability rating of minus 237%; but hey who cares what Stuart Smalley fans have to say?

However when the Wall Street Journal says the GOP has never been less popular in its history I think its worthy of a thread. I can't believe a party that once called the shrub its leader has lost favorability over the past few months; but somehow it has happened.

The party may be down but not to fear :

?Conservatives? Are Single-Largest Ideological Group

In Gallup's poll of what ideology a person has we have :

Conservative 40%
Independent 35%
Liberal 21%

That 19% spread of C-L is down from the 26% in 1992 but it's still a solid gap that shows Republicans will find lots of votes when they return to being Conservatives and found a voice that speaks better than Bush and McCain.

Look around you, BFan. Do you think the voices you hear on the right are "somewhat conservative"? If not go deeper into the "very conservative/somewhat conservative" divide. That's where you'll find your answer for the Republicans.

Interesting that the 19% spread is down from the 26% in 92 to 19% in 09. If that spread mirrors the demographic changes underway in the country, the right is in more, not less, trouble.

Your problem is you've lost moderates and alienated "somewhat conservatives". Your problem in the future is what you see in the 19-29 demographic: the Cons are on the way out, and neither "side" wins without the center. Take a look at the weirdo stuff you see posted on here daily. That's not moderate-seducing stuff, is it?

And that's why the GOP is currently irrelevant.

Before you all get gitty over whatever it is either side is selling, the presidents poll numbers among independents, which is what more people are calling themselves these days, is down to 50/50. Remember people, where there is Coke, there will be Pepsi. Or vice versa, not that it matters either way.

That's a strange, tangled, overthought position. It is what it is, the country is still Center Right. Bush and McCain have worn on that, rightly so, so it's more to the Center than it was. But this poll shows it's Center Right; however the Republicans need a good candidate because although "Right" is popular, "Republican" isn't.

Obama is helping greatly in the comeback of the Republican Party even many of his strongest groupies are having second thoughts about their beautiful poster boy.

Obama is hell bent on having his own private little Obama Government take your whole life over
"Comrade Obama"

You are watching the old but true prophecy come true "give him enough rope and he will hang himself"
