NFP: Road to '09 Patriots

The National Football Post | The Road To ‘09: Patriots

1. Will we see the same Tom Brady in September?

2. Is Laurence Maroney going to show up in ’09?

3. Who’s going to start at corner?

4. Can Wes Welker repeat his monster ’08 season?

5. Can the Patriots walk away with the AFC East title?

DRAFT POSSIBILITES

Can the Patriots walk away with the AFC East title?

Probably not.

Yes, they’re my early favorites to win the AFC East, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to happen easily. This is a 10-win team, but after that, I can’t guarantee they’ll be dominant. Plus, the rest of the AFC could provide some big challenges come January.

-------------

Yeah. The rest of the AFCE has done so much this offseason. JETS are starting over from scratch with no QB (or no draft picks...)...Buffalo added TO and retained Dick Jauron, 'nuff said. Miami is who we thought they were. Saw that in the playoffs. Smoke and mirrors gimmicks only work around here once...

All we've done is get the league MVP back, upgrade at WR, upgrade at RB, upgrade at CB, and we have 4 day one picks in a deep draft...

That jumped out at me. It would basically be a three peat if he had similar numbers. Welker had almost identical numbers as he did in 07.

Wes should do even better with another legitimate threat like Galloway out wide

I pray to God we dont lose TB again .. im going to crap myself each time he drops back and I see a defender within 20 feet:p

Not only does it say he is consistent, I think it says teams still can't stop him. Maybe teams look at the season before, so he changes his ways :)

Not to mention he probably lost a few catches when he got knocked out of the Steelers game.

I didn't realise quite HOW consistent Welker was. Great work!

DRAFT POSSIBILITES

1. The odds are good, but even TB won't know until he takes a few hits and finds out whether the injury/surgery/recovery has impacted his game. The best thing we have going, aside from his HOF talent, is that he never depended heavily on his "mobility."

2. Depends. If we're waiting for the Maroney that many of us hoped we took in the first round, i.e., the Maroney who would maybe remind us of Curtis Martin or at least become a premier Number One RB, my answer is "I doubt it." But, if we're waiting for Maroney to show up as a solid "tandem" back who contributes as one of a tag team of two or three, I think the answer is "Yes."

3. Should make for an interesting camp and Preseason, but my guess is Bodden and Hobbs with Springs getting more and more playing time as the year goes on.

4. My Ouija Board is at the back of the hall closet.

5. "walk away?" Too much competition now. But, win it by a game or so? Yes, I think so.

As for this DRAFT, only BB knows and he ain't tellin' nobody.
