Pentagon exploring robot killers that can fire on their own

WASHINGTON — The unmanned bombers that frequently cause unintended civilian casualties in Pakistan are a step toward an even more lethal generation of robotic hunters-killers that operate with limited, if any, human control.

The Defense Department is financing studies of autonomous, or self-governing, armed robots that could find and destroy targets on their own. On-board computer programs, not flesh-and-blood people, would decide whether to fire their weapons

?????????????????????????????

I suppose nobody at the pentagon has ever seen "Terminator" or "Battlestar Galactica"

No kidding, my thoughts exactly. Or Blade Runner? It just always seems like a bad idea to me. There's not one scenario or story I can think of that shows humans and robots living together peacefully.

The Terminator show, by the way, is fantastic. I thought it would be terrible, but it's quite the opposite. I highly recommend it for any Terminator fan.

They should be making female & male robots for sex they should sell them in Wal Mart & JC Penny's, I would purchase two of each and have an orgy.

You shouldn't be so speciesist Holy. Not all autonomous robots are bad. The robot from Lost in Space was a good guy, when he wasn't falling for one of Dr Smith's evil schemes and Data saved the Enterprise more times than I can count.

Regal, thats the only word to describe your post.

Bravo...calling out partisanship in a thread about the military wanting to use robots to kill on their own. Maybe I should've posted that they were democratic robots.....
