Cassel/Vrabel trade signals Pats will be players in FA market

We unloaded Cassel's huge cap room as soon as possible because we want to play in the FA market. This is maybe the biggest reason why we didn't wait things out and try to get another high pick for Cassel.

As mgteich said in another thread:
[This free agency period is critical to this year and next, since we may or may not be able to sign free agents next year. And even if we can, Kraft would rather sign free agents now than in possible uncapped market.]

When I start seeing some good signings I'll feel better...

We made the trade now to unload Cassel's cap room because we are going to be major players in free agency this year... and the draft should also be interesting

I agree completely, thought all along that a #3 pick would not fit into the economy of the way the Pats do business... there will be more signings here.. Peppers?? Extend Wilfork??? This is just the beginning.. everything is ok.. Taylor and Baker are welcome additions..

Only if the wobbly MCL of Brady's is 100% by July.

I totally agree, now we have cap space and draft picks galore. Even if we had gotten the third overall pick we all know BB would have traded it for lower picks anyways.

Major players? Are there major players out there to spend on?

That's right. Believe it or not Today is only the SECOND day of free agency. The Pats unloaded Cassel quick, accepting lesser value to free up the cap room quicker. Lots of free agents out there that could help this team.
