Yeah, those comparisons look so appealing. :rolleyes:

[OK, to be fair, Pennington ain't bad. But the rest of them--Do Not Want.]

I think the Harrell to Pennington comparison is legit. They both have pop-gun arms, although Pennington looked better this year than he has in years.

If the choice for a team needing a QB is Stafford - Sanchez - Cassel. I know which of those I would target in a skinny minute.

Sanchez has started 16 games. The chance of him not being a bust is like 5%.


I don't understand all the ragging on Pennington. He was absolutely elite until he blew out the arm.

Its fine saying hes been hurt and missed a lot of time. Saying hes been bad is a totally different thing, and thats what I have a problem with.

No one thinks Pat White can compete at the NFL level?

I think as a QB, he will be a little outmatched, but he has an arm, and the man can fly...

Maybe, but I'd have a hard time putting any stock into a QB who only broke 200 yards passing twice in his senior year. Passing was clearly the 2nd option in that offense.

We must have different definitions of "elite" and/or "absolutely".

He had a very promising rookie year in a very "safe" offense...dinked and dunked to a very high completion percentage, didn't screw up, yada yada yada.

He was very good this year.

He was fair to middling in between. Not to legitimize Pro Bowl voting, but has he ever been voted to the game? Has he ever cracked even the third team in the All-Pro selections? Is there a single point in his career where you thought to yourself that he was one of the six best QBs in the league?

I like Pennington. I would call him "Good enough to win with". I don't remember any time where he was in the elite category.

2002 he was second in DYAR and first in DVOA in the league. 2004 he was 9th. 2006 he was 7th. 2008 he was 7th again.


And thats all without ever having an elite WR.

Okay. That's great. I respect those metrics. But I still don't look at a QB who finished 2nd, 9th, 7th, and 7th over the course of a 7 year career as being elite. David Garrard was one of the leaders last year, wasn't he?

Pennington is good at what he does, but as your starting QB, you have to necessarily shorten your playbook and limit your game planning. Not ideal, to say the least.

And what's wrong with Lav Coles? Before Moss and Welker got here, he's better than anything Brady had to work with. He also played with Chrebet right? Keyshawn? Cotchery?
