KC Star Sports blog calling for the team to get Cassel

I don't know who this guy is, but it might well reflect a good chunk of the vibe in KC. Other than a few minor points, he's right. But could we trade out of #3 or get good value at that high a draft spot?

Billboards, dollar bills, long shots and every reason the Chiefs need to trade for Matt Cassel | Red Zone

Billboards, dollar bills, long shots and every reason the Chiefs need to trade for Matt Cassel

The Chiefs have three months to decide what they'll do with their No. 3 overall pick, and I'm here to tell you the best thing to do is trade that thing for your quarterback of the future: Matt Cassel.

What's that draft pick doing but burning a hole in your pocket and trying like hell to convince you to spend it on Matt Stafford or Mark Sanchez or some guy who plays defense and can't even throw a football. The fact is, Stafford probably won't be available at 3, and Sanchez has some work to do before I'm convinced he's a sure thing.

Good stuff, I'm a firm believer that the press has a major impact on fan and team reactions to which path they go down and just like in Minnesota with Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press, same deal, calling out for Matt Cassel, this is nothing but great stuff. Two interested parties (Minn/KC) is all it takes to start raising the ante for Matt's sevices. Keep the articles coming because it will just get Matt's market off to a nice, fluffy start heading into Feb..............

He makes a convincing argument. It makes all kinds of sense for the Chiefs to do this. But I don't think they'll be handing over a 3 pick for it though. Nor would we ncessarily want to be that high up there, unless BB decides this is the year he wants a sure thing tackle.

From our perspective there are other teams, better placed, for Cassel. Minnesota anyone?

I agree, if I had to guess where Matt ends up right now, my bet is on Minnesota. They are the one team that is a real good QB away from making a run and they also have a pick that makes sense to trade for both them and us at #20. (#20 this year) and a #3 in 09 or a #2 in 2010 works.

It wouldn't necessarily be KC's #1 (3rd overall) for Cassel straight up. It could be Cassel + NE's #1 for KC's #1.

I don't know if the Patriots would like this expensive a pick.

Another solution would be to trade picks in the second and

third rounds plus another pick in 2010.

No way. They're going to pick up draft picks in any trade.

This is of course highly relevant because while with the New England Patriots Scott Pioli developed a well deserved reputation of making all personnel decisions based on how the wind was blowing in the local blogs and papers.

In fact the only reason New England traded for Moss was the strong demand in the local papers.

And numerous sources have confirmed that the Patriots were on the verge of release Matt Cassel in August 2008 but overwhelming fans support for the backup quarterback resulted in the GM reversing his opinion.

The more competition for Cassel the better. If they were to get the 3rd pick it would be BJ Raji DT BC. He is now projected to go #6 to the Bengals. With all the DL contracts expiring together next year, this would be a great pickup.

More`likely it would be High 2nd and 3rd round this year and 2nd next year.
