Free Agen: 2010 Starting Safety?

We should re-sign free agent backups from free agency. Harrison may come back or not. Ditto for Tank Williams. Lew Sanders should be back.

The question is about our starter for the next 2-4 years. If we sign James Sanders or another mid-level free agent, I don't see us using a top draft pick for a safety.

I think it depends on Sean Jones. If we land him, then we're all set. I think the alternative is to sign Rodney for another year, and draft a safety in the first three rounds to replace him in 2010. In either scenario, we'd need to resign one of the Sanders brothers, Antwan Spann (whom I think is highly underrated) or someone comparable for the #3/4 safety.

Meriweather is looking more and more like an indispensible part of the defense. Maybe that's reason enough to re-up James Sanders....some continuity in case Meriweather gets hurt.

Count me on the Sean Jones bandwagon, Shadow roster or PUP: Harrison (I think he's going to be needed in playoffs)

Im on too. And from what I can tell, the Browns were very close to the cap this season. And it seems they dont have alot of money coming of the books through players lost to free agency. So hopefully, they wont be able to resign or franshise him.

How funny would it be if they did tag him, and the Pats came in with a contract like they gave to Welker that really forced the Browns hand, like it did the Phins. Sticking it to the rat!

I think that Rodney and Tank suffice as veterans, the Pats need a young hitter, a young Rodney. I don't know a lot about Sean Jones whether he is a young hitter or not. I would prefer to bring in a safety through the draft. I definitely want to replace James Sanders. I think he is the weak spot back there.

Umm if the Browns franchise tagged him, the Pats would have to give up 2 1st round picks. So that's not gonna happen. If he is not franchise tagged, then he's open game.

I'm also fine with two veterans. My choices would be Harrison (who could start the year on the PUP list) and Lew Sanders. Lew Sanders can start at any of the secondary positions. Tank could compete for one of the ST spots. I have allocated four to Washington, Izzo, Slater and Ventrone.

We do need a 2010 starter. I don't see us paying Sean Jones money for a free agent. Also, I don't believe that James Sanders is evaluated as poorly by the team as he is by this board. That being said, I expect that Belichick will either sign James Sanders or a mid-level free agent.

While I am not averse to drafting a safety in the Top 100, I think that we can deal with this position in free agency.

Well under this scenario, how about Dawan Landry from the ravens, I know he's a RFA and was injured last season but he's still young and the ravens have a lot of UFA (Suggs, Scott, Lewis) to care about.

Hopefully its Sean Jones, Merriweather at free safety covering deep middel with Sanders as the 3rd saftey.

Oshiomogho Atogwe from St louis is the guy I want at FS. Although he will be
29 at the start of the season he does not have a lot of miles on him as he was late to graduate.
