Looking back at the halfway point: a "what if?"

So, let me just present the scenario. . . . and you can imagine how different things would be.

Think back to Cassel's first drive as the Pats' de facto starter. He was handed just about the most impossible position any QB can have--first and 10 inside his own 2. On first and second down, the running game gets nowhere. On third down, when I'm sure many of us were praying he just wouldn't get sacked--and, in fact, I'll admit that I was almost hoping BB would go for the intentional safety--Cassel instead threw a long bomb to Moss. [The video is an amazing sight--you can see the crowd standing up to cheer as the ball streaks towards Moss.]

I honestly believe that that completion (A) may ultimately be the play that saved Matt Cassel's career, and (B) gave everyone--fans, teammates, and coaches alike--at least a glimmer of hope that maybe the Patriots weren't completely doomed.

So--what do you think might/would have happened if Cassel's throw wasn't caught by Moss?

Not much, the Pats would have punted and the D would have held KC to a FG giving Matt better field position. As you'll recall, only a handful of us felt that play was anything more than a fluke - that handful had also observed his command of the offense in preseason and weren't ready to cut our throats when Tommy went down.

What, you mean like what would have happened if Moss had pulled a Gaffney?

No, I mean if Moss had done the exact same thing he did last week against the Rams in the end zone.
