Today in China

I haven't been to my office in Shenzhen for about a week. This morning when I got here my office door was locked. When I asked my assistant to open it, she asked me, "oh, you want to go in your office?"

"Sure, of course I do."

"OK, there may be some flux in there." (Flux is a liquid made of alcohol and acids used for soldering. We make and sell the stuff amongst many other materials.)

"What?"

So she opened my office and there was over 1000 liters of flux in here. 1000 effing liters. And also a fan to keep the room cool. Unfortunately the fan was turned off. Later I explained that a fan that's off is not quite as effective as a fan that's on. And maybe next time they may want to consider just using the air conditioner that's in the wall.

Basically what happened was there was a fire at a neighboring factory last week and the operations manager here became worried that the fire dept. might come around and inspect everyone and find this flux, which we're not exactly licensed to store here. So of course, the most logical solution was to lock it in my office.

That flux was out of my office within 15 minutes of my arrival.

You licenses to store stuff in China? That's a surprise.

Should have put it in the operations managers office and told him he can flux off.

Laws in China are extremely detailed and convoluted. But enforced very inconsistently.

I find it amusing you intended to try and employ logic and reason with a situation that clearly didn't use it.

Sounds like you had quite a day
