Tale of the Tape - Earmarks

Obama and McCain both speak of earmark reform.

Obama earmark requests in 3 years of office = $740 million = $246 million/year.

McCain earmarks in 24 years = @ $30 Million = $1.25 million/year.

$740 million...3 Years.

.

All I can say is: I'm glad he's a "clean, articulate black man" -- as his running mate, Joe, put it.

Some earmarks are bad, but in general most of them are fine, unless you're against senior citizens centers, programs to give inner city kids after school activities, medical research, development of new weapons systems, and so on. Sure, there are some stupid earmarks, but most of them are fine. Obama has posted all his earmark requests (which is to his credit since he believes in government transparency):

Answer Center | Barack Obama

The anti-earmark thing is simply old style politics -- condemning a perfectly good thing by finding isolated examples of abuse. That said, it's easy to understand why Obama renounced earmarks. The issue is easily distorted by his opponents.

And I can bet that they don't include the development of new weapons systems !!

Newsmax.com - Obama&#39s Defense Plan Leaves Us Vulnerable
“I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems, stated Obama.

Look under Homeland Security and Defense (listed twice, once for each year):

Answer Center | Barack Obama

So am I supposed to believe what he says ( no $$ for new weapons)or what he does (earmarks) when they are in opposition to each other???

Interesting how in the debate he stated he is for the experimental funding of weapons systems. Of course the MSM doesn't call him out on this.
