Reiss: Chad Jackson released

Belichick just spoke about Jackson while on WEEI. His claim was that Jackson worked hard this offseason (Nobody worked harder) and there were no problems with anything there, but that the other players just beat him out. So, either Belichick confused Jackson with Jones and cut the wrong guy by mistake, or he was lying his ass off, because Jones didn't outplay anybody.

IMO he clearly outplayed Jackson, Ventrone, and Slater at WR. He had his problems with a couple of punts, but I thought he looked pretty darn good at wideout.

I'm one who disagrees with the move to cut Chad, but how can you say this? Their pre-season play was pretty close...both sucked against the Ravens and improved quite a bit as it went on. Jones had more than twice as many yards this pre-season (134 to 66)than Chad had, too.

Belichick also gets to see the two in practices every day and probably values special teams play more than you do. It's entirely possible CJ outplayed Chad in practice all camp. I know the one practice I attended Jones put on a show while I don't recall Chad doing anything.

Again, I don't agree with the move at all and would've kept Chad for his potential and given him a chance to work with Brady, but I think there is certainly an argument to be made for CJ outplaying Chad this pre-season (and probably camp, because I'd imagine if Chad was outplaying CJ big time in practices but getting a bit outplayed in the games, Chad would've made it).

Thats called stating the company line. What was he supposed to say? Was he supposed to tell us that Jackson was to dumb to pick up the system? Also, your claims are a joke considering the history Bill has when talking about internal things in public.

You wont give up. Deus, Jackson is a total bust, and he will never be a good NFL player. You where wrong, just accept it.

"Belichick's a liar!!!....how soon before the Patriots Genius Party Posse starts calling for BB's head and comes up with "20 better head coaches!!!!" to replace him ?

Whoa, chief! Take it down about 500 notches. That's what BB said. Nobody worked harder, Jackson showed improvement, those other players beat Jackson out. Nowhere have I called for BB's head or called him bad names. You homers need to differentiate between legitimate questioning and criticism, and mindless attacks.

Given that I haven't said he would be something special or anything like that, I'm not wrong. All I said was that he should get a full season with a full offseason to see what would happen. "I think he really improved". "I think he's going to continue to play in this league for somebody": Those were BB's lines in his interview today, not mine. Is he wrong so that you can be right, slick? If not, he's.......... lying. Oh, sorry...."stating the company line"

Feel free to actually speak on topics you know something about in the future. May I suggest your wardrobe?

Sure.

That's why the team is carrying 5 RBs?
They have 3 RBs on the roster at this time (Maroney, Jordan, Morris).

When Faulk returns, they may or may not have 4. Depends on who they cut to put him back on the 53.

What part of the career yards per carry and yards per catch make you think that either Jordan or Morris is a better long-term RB for us than Maroney?

He is a bust plain and simple. he had more than one opportunity to show his potential and repeatedly did not. I am not surprised at all. Too bad Cassell didnt preceed him.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

Yeah, I wanted him to work out, too. I had doubts when Felger said he had Jackson on WEEI after the foukrth preseason game and Jackson was saying how great he was a what a playmaker, etc etc. Even Felger thought it was un-Patriot like.

I f Felger thought it was un patriot like , then it was probably the right thing to do.

Give it up on Jackson. I was a big fan when he was drafted, defended him when he was hurt against those that called him a bust, but Jones adn Ventrone clearly outplayed him. I was at the two preseason games and Jackson was lackadaisical, walking to the huddle when everyone else was trotting. Plus he stopped running a route against the Ravens TWICE, causing a throw to go where he should have been.

Did you hear that BB only cut Jackson after he was unable to trade him? How great is this guy if no one will give up a conditional 7th round pick for him?

For that matter, all 31 teams passed on the chance to claim him for NOTHING. He is making minimum salary and Pats will pay the prorated signing bonus. Any team that claimed Jackson would get him for absolute minimum cost.

NONE DID. Think about what that means.

His only shot is some WR-deprived team will take a chance or that a couple WRs go down in week 1.

Jackson evidently felt the same way, that he was entitled to a free season to be checked out. While everyone else had a sense of urgency and need to improve, Jackson felt entitled.

Mincey said this last year (or the year before) when he was cut. He said he thought he'd be given a year to see if he could make it.

Sorry, trying to make it out like BB let Stanley Morgan or Troy Brown go is just wrong. He let Tony Simmons go.

Spacecrime, I understand the situation every bit as well as you do. The apparent difference is that I think they axed him a season too soon and you don't. That's it. I'm not defending what he's done to date as anything to write home about, and I'm not claiming he'll be brilliant in the future. I'm saying that he's only 23 (just about the same age as the #1 overall pick this season Jake Long, as a matter of fact) and coming off an ACL injury, and the team should have found a spot for him to see if he could step up over the course of the season. It's not as if the Ventrones, Aikens, Joneses, etc... are likely to be destined for stardom, either, after all.

Again, according to BB, Jackson busted his ass this offseason. BB has made statements to that effect on multiple occasions this offseason.

Wouldn't the "company line" be that he was dumb and immature? How is the "company" served by the head coach saying the player he just cut is improved and going to play for somebody? Shouldn't the "company line" be about making the team look better and the player look worse?

Not only am I finding out out that is he incompetent as a GM, I am also learning that he just totally doesn't get the whole "company line" concept.

Breaking News: Coach Declines To Speak Ill Of Dead. My God, is this the first time we're confronting this cliche? Everybody's a "great guy" who "worked hard." It's been that way since the beginning of time. Now all of a sudden he's either stupid or a liar for speaking them.

Further, why are we still unable, after eight years, to understand that they're not going to go public about the whys and hows of their dealings with players? Why are there still those among us who are waiting for Belichick to speak directly about the things he saw or didn't see in Jackson, or any other player?

Why is this your expectation? When did it become our right to have everything explained to us?

Talk to Patslifer about the "company line" comment. I pulled it directly from one of his posts, and used it with sarcasm, as the smiley should have indicated to you.

For everyone who thinks BB never screws up - Well here is a big one for you - BB is as all coaches are, just a guy hoping a collegiate athlete can be a good pro - not so in the case.

Coaches picking players are like buying into the stock market - You simply have no idea until things start moving along before you know whether you invested in the right or wrong.

Exactly, good point

Nice deflection. You should be on a ticket with somebody. Unless all of your posts this weekend have been sarcastic, it's clear your POV is that the front office and head coach have made several personnel errors and what's worse, have refused to explain them to you to your satisfaction.

Question still stands. What has given you the impression that you're entitled to that?

I live in Florida, I get about 4 hours of sleep a night (usually more on weekends, but I just bought a puppy and I don't want to be replacing rugs), and my business is one that requires the processing of a lot of paperwork. So, since I'm the owner, I end up working in front of 2-3 computers for long stretches of the day.

Thanks. Put that puppy to work!

BB also made statements about what a strong camp Victor Hobson was having.

A more reliable sign of a player busting his butt in the offseason would be inclusion in the (rather long) list of off-season award winners.
