Re: John Lynch signs with Pats (Not Confirmed)

Guys was just in the Pro-Bowl last year, his fourth consecutive and 6th of the decade.

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats (Not Confirmed)

Haters you guys can hate all you want but if this is true we just signed the best fourth safety in the league.

I find it amazing how people get so uptight about the guy having lost a step and being to old....It would be one thing if he was back there starting every game but I am assuming he is a back up and Rodney, Merriweather and Sanders are all ahead of him.

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

Lynch to the Pats is 4 years too late. Pats really must have worked on something with Tank playing that DB/ILB spot and it looked like it was going to be used often. Maybe Lynch takes over that role.

Looking at the schedule this year, Pats do play some really good TE's.

Does it strike you that your first sentence is directly contradicted by the rest of your post? :)

Lynch is clearly past the point of being an impact every-down player. But as a situational "big nickel" guy, he makes sense and fills a clear need on this roster -- better than you could reasonably hope for on August 14th. This seems like a good, solid, logical move.

I Love this signing!!!!! He is another safety with fire in his belly and will give us hits to cheer all season long.

I don't know. He's definitely slowed to the point that I'm not confident he can cover tight ends anymore. He has no experience in the defense, although the HC seems to have no concern that he could pick it up. I'm not 100% sure he makes the team.

Tank had that role locked. Got hurt. Totally new situation. Time for Option B.

The Pats play a majority of running teams this season. I wonder if BB occasionally makes a short term, 1 season vet signing decision based on characteristics of a season's specific opponents? I see both Lynch & tank as being strongest against the run.

Embrace the hate.

Bottom line is we just got better, and we were pretty darn good before.

This team is going to be scary on both sides of the ball.

The intangibles John will bring, the leadership, the smarts, he'll play in a rotation with Rodney, Brandon and JSanders to give us probably the best 4 backliners in the league (combined as a group to keep each other fresh in a rotation). Capers is working on all kinds of game plans now as we speak.

Welcome Johnnie.............

He may be getting older, but he just continues to add to what makes this defense as good as it is. He is intelligent, can understand complicated defenses, and will be a situational player. I think its is a great signing.

Lynch is a great addition considering the early part of our schedule - 3 games against AFC West opponents (incl Denver) in the first 7 weeks. My concerns about the D taking its lumps early on have dwindled a bit. Good signing.

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

Thread prediction...

Homers "Nice! Lynch is going to be a GREAT fit here. Belichick will use him in some genius way that will showcase all of good qualities, while hiding all of his weakness's!! " :rocker:

:disagreement:

Non-Homer's - "This is a waste of a roster spot. Lynch is old, slow, and well past his prime. I thought we were trying to get younger!"

If that's the test, I am a "non-homer."

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

I don't really understand the hate for Lynch. He made the Denver run defense work and brought an intensity that they lacked. I like the signing a lot.

I'd rather have had Tank WIlliams, but Lynch is okay with me. Wish he'd have signed with us rather than the Broncos, though.

For Tombonneau:

Mea culpa, mea culpa (%#*^&*$ old fart), mea culpa, mea culpa....

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

Quite agree with all the negative points mentioned in the ealier threads: he is old, might have lost a step, new to defense etc. - but feel quite good that we signed him. :D

I believe that he is a smart player who will be quick to pick up our defensive schemes and know his strengths/limits so that he can control to a good extent the damage he might inadvertendly cause.

Even though a few years late thanks to those Broncos, I heartily welcome Mr. Lynch! :)

GO PATS!!

Re: John Lynch signs with Pats

i'm fine with this pick up people are judging his play for the pats before he even puts on a uni
