Re: I know why people love Jackson

Dwayne Bowe caught 70.

Which means absolutely nothing. Historically, receivers start off more slowly than other positions, which was why I brought up Smith and Burress. Bowe, and Colston, are exceptions to the rule.

I see, so Jackson is on the six year plan? Jackson has had injury problems, and there has been SEVERAL reports out of Pats land that players and coaches are unhappy with him. Btw, Plexico has 66 receptions in his second year, and 78 in his third....both years over 1000 yards

Dwayne Bowe having a great rookie season means nothing? Ok!

Re: If Jackson does not come on in

So, I can't have an opinion that says that Jackson will not be a good player? Also, what about Dwayne Bowe catching 70 passes last year?

What about Bowe catching 70 passes last year? Goodness, you do like your red herring, don't you? Dan Marino got it done his first year too. That doesn't mean most quarterbacks who go on to become great will do so.

Your argument is weak. The pats have picked guys that have not worked out.... by your logic, when people called Bethal Johnson a bust, they where wrong, since Pioli and Beli drafted him, and they know more than us.

My argument is that Jackson's injuries and lost time should result in people like you and I giving him a fair amount of time before claiming he's a bust. One of the very best talent evaluators in the NFL takes that same approach as, seemingly, do Belioli. Frankly, I'll side with them over you.

Fact is, from time to time, guys like us are correct.

Even a stopped watch is right twice a day. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to pay attention to it.

Plexico had 66 catches his second year and over 70 his third year. Both seasons over 1000 yards. Jacksons injuries = durability issues....something that certain guys can't overcome. What do second and third years stats look like for most big time recievers?

What part of "14 games in 2 years and no training camps" keeps eluding you? Is it basic comprehension that you struggle with?

No, the part of Jackson having durability issues is a factor. Certain guys CANNOT stay on the field, and they never become the player they where supposed to because of it. We could explain a lot of poor NFL careers due to injury, but you know what, it means nothing.....the stars stay on the field.

Couple that with the reports of Jacksons poor attitude, and viola!

Ummm..... Jackson hasn't yet had a second year on the field, unless you're going to try pretending that the 2 game stint should count. That's really the whole point. Furthermore, even if he were to light the world on fire from tomorrow until the end of a Hall of Fame career, he will not be catching 66 catches this season because of the other wide receivers that are on the team.

His combine stats, and his physique. When the kid walks on to the field, people see a ripped, athletic, specimen. I wish people could admit that aside from his combine stats, the reason they think he is going to be a great player, is because he is a physical freak. What has he done that would lead you to believe that he is going to be a game breaker? Has he shown durability or heart? Yes, he has great genetics for lean muscle mass, but does he have the mental make up to put his gifts to use? I say no, and I think he has shown that he is immature.

Mayo showed us that raw talent......he showed us that he has "it". Jackson has never done that, and from I have seen, it looks like he never will. I hope that I am wrong, but aside from a steller physique, Jackson has not NOTHING to warrent any praise.
i dont know about out jackson but i saw the ravens replay today and there was this moment after crable's interception where he was celebrating on the sidelines with everyone and mayo comes and taps on his shoulder and tells him something like dean peas is telling something about the D, come and pay attention and pulls him aside.
that i thought was a sign of a mature player.

Good point, Mayo has shown that he has "it". He picked up the system quickly, played well, and showed maturity. Jackson has done none of that.

You like many others, ignore a players durability, and ability to stay on the field. Jackson showed durability issues before his ACL tear, and reports from the Pats have coaches and players unhappy with his effort.

The stars stay healthy. They have whatever it is that makes them durable, and able to play for a full season, time and time again.

You didn't just say something as incredibly silly as "the stars stay on the field" when we're talking about an ACL injury did you? Ok, that tells me all I need. You have a nice night.

Jackson didn't show any durability issue before the ACL tear. He had a typical wide receiver injury, missed camp and fell behind. It was the kind of injury that can keep receivers on the shelf for a long, long time. However, he was known to be healthy in college. Now, since you seem to use an ACL as some proof of durability problems, we're not going to get anywhere with this. Good night.

Then why didnt he have a full camp, until this season? In 2006 he injured his hammy before he even played a real game.

Didn't Jackson get hurt during his first training camp, and have nagging hammy issues to start his career?

Didn't Asante Samuel?

Re: If Jackson does not come on in

It's pretty scary when a rookie 6th round pick (Slater), who never played WR, had a more productive game receiving than Jackson, same can be said for Ventrone (undrafted DB). At this point, unless he matures and takes football seriously, I don't think he makes it out of camp. It seems he can't comprehend the playbook after 3 years. It's time to cut your losses, admit a mistake, and move on. Moss, Welker, Gaffney, Washington, Slater, Ventrone & Aiken are probably ALL ahead of Chad Jackson at this moment. At least Bethel Johnson made it onto the playing field, contibuted in the return game, and seemed to know the playbook, Jackson gives you none of that. Goodbye Chad, your combine numbers made you millions, but determination, heart & preperation make a great football player, not combine numbers.

Re: I know why people love Jackson

Why not give him a few part of the regular season before we declare him a total bust?

Re: I know why people love Jackson

i am with you patslifer, i gave up on chad jackson too... we are really fortunate that we have moss and welker, and not have to rely on jackson... i am thinking 4-5 months from now, someone will revisit this thread and say you are correct (bethel 2.0)...:D

You've watched, what? One pre-season game where Jackson had Cassel and Guterrez throwing to him and you claim he doesn't have "IT". Never mind that most WRs take years to develop, but Jackson had a huge set-back when his ACL was torn in the AFCCG against the Colts. Because it was so late in the 2006/2007 season, it basically killed his 2007/2008 season. If you think that Jackson doesn't have raw talent, then you've never actually seen him play and really should just stop ranting on and on about how he's a bust.

Re: I know why people love Jackson

Dwayne Bowe caught 70.

Dwayne Bowe had no other help on the team and was immediately thrust into a starting situation. Big difference there meat head.
