The "FAVRE - he's really coming baaack only not in GB" post

iam really amazed how much clout 1 player holds over an organization that their president has to fly down to his house and talk to him. And now favre and his agent arent talking about getting a release , they are talking about returning to the packers knowing it cant happen and packers have to take the PR hit.

favre wont be leaving GB...

and he wont be playing either

GB will just keep him, and have rodgers start....then well see how much Favre likes being the back up

I can think of 18 million reasons that won't happen, the six they're paying Rodgers and the 12 they would owe to the "back up."

If I was Thompson or McCarthy, I'd trade Favre for whatever I could get from an AFC team like the Jets or Bills or Chiefs. What the Packers get back is inconsequential. A month ago the Packers were getting nothing in return and they were fine with that; if they wanted something in return for Favre they would have traded him a year or two ago.

....

Just commenting on your first point, Favre has taken that option off the table by saying he would not play for any of those teams, so they would end up with the rights to a player who won't play for them. So, maybe they'd get the Gatorade cooler for him under those circumstances. The interesting thing would be if one of those teams traded say a Sixth or Seventh Round Pick to the Pack for a guy who won't play for them and then turned around and traded Favre to the Vikings for a third or fourth rounder, effectively swapping those picks. I guess the Pack could make the trade conditional on stuff like that not happening, but it's a thought.

I would assume the Packers would include some type of clause in any trade contract that would discourage the new team from trading Favre - an escalator to a 1st rounder if he plays more than five games against NFC teams or in the state of Minnesota, etc.

A team like the Jets could take a flyer on Favre by having whatever they give up being conditional on Favre reporting; if Favre retires they get that pick back. The Packers can make it a no risk/low risk proposition for the team they are trading Favre to, other than them having to pay him the $12 million he's due this year if he does report rather than retire. Or a team looking for extra cash (Bills, Bengals, Jags) could trade a 7th rounder for his rights and then do what Tampa Bay did with Jake Plummer, and go after whatever the remaining pro-rated portion of his signing bonus is - I'm thinking it's about $3 to $4 million.

Farve is a distraction regardless. I would welcome him back to camp as Thompson has, as backup. In fact, if his papers go through and he doesn't report to camp I'd fine his ass. If he comes to camp and doesnt want to watch tape or back up rodgers, then fine his ass for that. The bottom line is that if he wants to be a player in the NFL he has to do whatever the Pack asks of him. He had no problem accepting that contract and all the money that came with it when they offered it to him.

and packers have to take the PR hit.

At this point I think it Favre who is taking the PR hit; He's tarnishing his legacy as a Packer

The Packers allegedly tried to bribe Favre into not playing. Any 'tarnish' to Favre's legacy will soon come off, and the Packers front office looks more ridiculous with each passing day. This has gone from a tough situation with neither side in the wrong to a ridiculous situation with the Packers looking like idiots.

Brett Favre has so much fun when playing. You can't put a price on that. He's like a kid out there folks.

He deserves a timeout.

Didn't see this posted yet: Green Bay is offering Farve $20 million to stay retired.
Wow, didn't see that coming.

The Bears have got to be F'ing kidding me. How in the hell do they have such a blind loyalty to those two goobers? Rex Grossman had half a good season, and that half more than Kyle Orton ever had. WTF, man?

If I was a Bears fan I would be so irritated. Hell, they would be better off with Culpepper or Leftwich.

Maybe the Bears coaching staff are planning on playing for a low draft pick...

If you think a statement "allowing him to comeback as a back up" is not total disrespect to Hall of famer then I don;t know what is.

There is no way our New England Patriots or Bill Belichick would disrespect a veteran like that. If you don't want him back, that's fine - trade him or release him and move on - period.

Shame on Green Bay for allowing this to turn into a circus full of hard feelings all around. I imagine Green bay fans are really feeling sick to their stomachs no matter what they feel about Brett Favre and where he should be playing.

Lord Favre has forced their hand here.......the owners/GM went down to Miss. one last time and said Brett are you SURE that you want to retire at this time? Favre: Weeping into his pair of panties "Yes guys....this is finally it....I can't do it anymore" GM/Owners: "Alright Brett we respect your decision....and I guess it is time for all of us to MOVE on".......4 months go by (at the most) and Lord Favre has NO ONE following him around and running the camera.....when he goes to the ole' fishing hole....only thing that follows him are the mosquitos......and he gets lonely......calls Ted what's his name...."Hey...the ole' gunslinger is coming back!" ........It is TOO LATE Brett......the Pack have MOVED ON.....they are building for the FUTURE.......and don't give me this BS that the GM/Owners pushed him into making a decision......HE made the decision on his own......No one held a gun to his head.......He made the decision now should LIVE with it....Be a MAN....and move on.....Green Bay should INFORM HIM to report to camp asap.....He will compete with all QB's for the starting job.....He will NOT get the starting job.....and will be named backup.....let him ***** from the pine....If he *****es too much most fans will fall even further out of love with this scumbag....what an embarrassing end to a decent career

+1 Hilarious!!!!

"....what an embarrassing end to a decent career."

I've been telling anyone who'll listen that the Packers were probably scrambling just to get a 6th or 7th rounder for this clown when this all started up again. There may be some wheeling and dealing still going on behind the scenes, but i doubt it. Call me a Favre hater, but the big headline from all this drama should be that NO ONE WANTS THIS GUY ON THEIR TEAM, apparently. No one.

I dont want to post a different thread, but Pack and jets look to be in serious discussions..

Here's how I see it. In hindsight.;) IVO GB's position 4 weeks ago which I do understand and respect, what GB needed to do at that time was immediately reassure Favre that they were gonna get to work on finding him a team.

To tell him "oh, well then you're 2nd string" and "no, we will not allow you to compete for the job" AND "oh btw, how bout 20m to say at home", I think, is an EPIC management snafu that's gonna take work to recover from.

GB playing the pissant "we own you:" role was a mistake. Of course, Brett has made his mistakes along the line and has in fact created the controversy. Brett's mistakes are not the issue here.

The issue for GB is quite simply their future. This episode is really not gonna tarnish Favre's legacy on any level. Regardless, he's a 1st ballot dude.

This is about the GB organizational attitude and who they want to be. In my eyes, right now the GB org is not looking good.

The 20m story is downright pathetic.

Yeah I agree...20 mill to "stay retired" sounds fishy to me....
