Mayo signed to 5-year deal

Re: Mayo signed

BB probably wasn't too concerned with the length of the deal since he's just loading up for one last run before leaving to go coach the Giants. ;)

Actually it has ramifications beyond NE. Suppose (just guessing here) he signed a 5 yr deal like Chris Williams in Chicago who was the 14th pick when teams picking up to #16 could have signed 6 year deals, it affects picks #11,12,13,15 and 16. Their agents are going to want 5 year deals, pointing to Chi and NE as examples.... it affects the unsigned players #11 McKelvin in Buf, #12 Clady in Denver, #13 Stewart in Carolina, #15 Brandon Albert in KC, and #16 DRC with the Cardinals. All of whom are unsigned as I post this (according to Google news)

Re: Mayo signed

Kontra called it, he's like Nostradamus or something. :D

Indeed I did. I put my reputation and credibility on the line to call that and I'm glad it panned out.

Can't wait to see what Mayo is going to do in camp.

I bet he blocks and tackles. But that's just a guess. :)

Re: Mayo signed

**** yeah!

Re: Mayo signed

Thats great news. The defensive guys, especially the LBs need to get in and learn, learn, learn.

Is there a smiley that's laughing with milk squirting out its nose? Just curious.

Re: Mayo signed

I just saw this on Yahoo Sports....great news can't wait to see him in camp

Re: Mayo signed

As per Reiss, Mayo signed a five year deal worth $18.9 million with 13.8 guaranteed.

I'm sort of disappointed it's for just the five years but if having that sixth year meant he wouldn't be as prepared for his first, well, I think I'm okay with that.

Don't worry. Give it two years and he'll probably ***** and moan about wanting a larger, long term contract.

I'd have preferred 6 but 5 years is a long time away, I'm more concerned about the next 5 years than him getting an extra year.

who finishes their rookie contracts these days anyway?

If he leaves after 5 years we'll just sign Junior Seau again.

OTOH, odds are they'd have had to pay more per year for 6 years.

Nah, our team isn't like most teams. If the player is worth it, BB and Pioli will upgrade them before it becomes a big deal.

That's why I am not worried about Asante being gone. Who were the last two prominent guys that left after their rookie deals expired? Branch and Givens, with a whole 1490 and 8 TD's between them since they left.

Obviously I'd prefer 6- to 5-year contract, but let's be realistic: this team's core window is around 5 years, if not smaller.

To put it in perspective, in 5 years Brady will be 36.

So in this case, short term of getting Mayo in on time and integrated into the defense is better losing a year in the long run, as 2014 is a loooooooong way away.

FYI - Mayo was on the field for the 2nd round of practice. Obviously he's signed.

Wow, $13.8 of it is guaranteed? NFL teams are really starting to guarantee a higher percentage of a contracts money these days.
