I saw this one coming about 30 minutes ago. Lekevin played DT at for the Huskers but I think he could actually get it done at DE in a 3-4. I should have made a prediction in one of the threads.

Hell of a pick, Hell of a pick!!

War Room analysis
Strengths: Is built well with adequate lower-body strength. Plays low to maintain good leverage. Stays disciplined. Gets good position, and plays hard. Can clog the middle.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal height. Has no elite qualities. Lacks explosiveness and closing speed. Struggles to shed massive offensive linemen. Must expand pass-rush repertoire. Is a durability concern because of ingering knee problem.

Bottom line: Smith, a three-year college starter, can disrupt the run but lacks the natural talent and measurable skills to be worth anything more than a seventh-round pick.

Dan Pompei analysis
Shows quickness, athleticism and acceleration in getting upfield. Uses hands well. Has some nasty in him. Is neither very explosive nor agile. Is raw and has potential to get better. Can develop as a pass rusher. Would be a good fit in a one-gap scheme. Stock is rising.

I like it, from ESPN:

Smith has the physical tools of a Day 1 prospect but he will slip to the fourth-to-fifth round range of the 2006 draft due to his lack of polish and inconsistent effort.

This is a good pick, Dont expect him to become a stud but he could become a very solid back-up

he will be able to spell Wilfork and hes a great run stuffer

Odd pick. History of knee problems.

I wanted them to take LaCasse and Ben Obamanu WR Auburn.

Or D'Arrious Howard-RB.

Where do they put Stevenson? He's automatically practice squad. No chance. Looks like Gorin is cut as well.

Remember, not every one of these guys will make the team. My guess is both of these 7th rounders are practice squaders at best.

I like this pick. Just think we could have drafted another TE!

I don't think he would excel at NT, he isn't a real "big" guy, I do think he will be a solid backup at DE in the 3-4 though.

Maybe over Klecko?

Like Matt Cassel or David Givens or Tully Banta-Cain? ;)

And that's just in the past few years!

True, but do you really think all these guys are going to make it? That'd be historically good drafting. I hope so, but history says otherwise.

Pro Football Weekly said that he was better playing a one gap.

How long before he starts learning the two gap- 5 mins?

I believe that 'do is actually called a "natural" - just like the player!:D

I'm always happy to see that Patriots pick up a Husker player but LaKevin could go down as one of the stupidest plays in Nebraska history. The Huskers were up on Texas Tech and Tech has the ball. The Huskers force a fumble and LaKevin picks up the ball and starts running with it. You guessed it, he gets the ball stripped and Tech gets it back and proceeds to go down and score the game winning td.

 ...I remember seeing that... and my Tech friends talking about it the next day. So Smith was that guy. I can't really blame him or other d-linemen in that situation for trying to advance the ball when they actually have it in their hands for the first, and most likely, last time of their careers. It also makes a good highlight reel to see a fat d-lineman running down the sidelines for the endzone.

Yeah, I could see it if it was early in the game. But it wasn't early in the game, it was almost over and Nebraska had it in their hands. That's just first day stuff, the ball hits the ground, you fall on it and stay down.
