There have been many great Celtic victories, and moments, over the years, and this win, last night in Los Angeles, ranks right up there at, or near the top of the list along side......."Havlicek Stole The Ball."

its in the top five but for me the greatest game ive ever seen was in 76 against the suns in the finals at the old garden .the triple o.t. game .nothing can ever top that game.

I agree, it's somewhere in the top five. The triple OT, Havlichek stole the ball, Bird steals the ball, and Henderson steals the ball.

Wow, the memories.
Not so much games, but plays off the top of my head:
Bird dunking the ball at the Garden mimicking the Lakers (game-match-point).
Bird stealing the ball at the Garden with DJ laying it in (game)
Havlichek steals the ball (don't remember the actual play, listened to it over and over on Most's record).
Allan dribbling the clock down, beating his man badly and laying it in (game).
Nelson's jump shot.................................................its good!
Can't remember the game, but Russell blocked a critical shot (lay-up) for the win ( a grainy black and white image is cemented in my brain)

That one series with the Sixers where each game was decided by a couple of points back when it was Dr J. and Bird.
The Bird/Dominique game.

I had forgotten about that one. I remember watching it with my soon to be wife, sitting on the couch and going absolutely nuts about it. Great, great game.

My memory is faded somewhat, but I believe it was against Philly and the Celtics were nursing a slime lead, one or two points and they had possession and were about to inbound the ball. I am not sure but I believe it was Russell who inbounded and when he did, the ball hit the guide wire that stretched up from the backboard. r. The ball was given to Philly to inbound. There were just a few seconds left. The inbound pass was stolen by Havlicek and Johnny Most went nuts.

I did not go to many Celtic games at the time but a good friend of mine who was a pharmacist was a huge Celts fan and I had connections with a ticket agent and he got us two outstanding seats at midcourt, FOR THAT GAME,2nd or 3rd row in the balcony, right over the press box.

What a fantastic moment in my life of being a sports fan.

I was too young to remember the 3 OT game in '76, but this game is definitely up there with:

1. Game 7 '81 Sixers/Celts - Celts down by something like 9 in the middle of the 4th, then put on a defensive clinic and hold the Sixers to ONE point the rest of the way in a 91-90 thriller to complete the 3-game comeback.

2. Game 7 '88 Hawks/Celts - Bird vs. 'Nique. Bird 9 for 10 and 20pts in the 4th.

3. Game 7 '84 Lakers/Celts - Celts just dominate the glass (50+ rebounds), open the game up late in the 3rd and midway into the 4th, then watch a furious LA comeback fall short with Magic's two late turnovers dooming them.

4. Game 4 '84 Lakers/Celts - Celts down by something like 5 with a minute to go, then hit their shots and get turnovers to force OT, then Bird hits a monster turnaround to take the lead and ML Carr steals and dunks to clinch the game and save the series.

5. Game 4 '85 Lakers/Celts - DJ knocks down the game-winning jumper to tie the series. I'm convinced if this wasn't the first year of the 2-3-2 format, the Celts would have won games 5 and 7 at home in a repeat of '84.

6. Games 5 & 7 '87 Pistons/Celts - Bird/DJ save game 5, then game 7 is an all-out war with Vinnie Johnson and Adrian Dantley(?) banging coconuts, putting both in a fog offensively the rest of the game. Bird played all 48 minutes of game 7.

game 7 in 87 against the bucks in the second round was also a great game . ainge was awesome. i had press credentials for that game. a friend on my baseball team worked for the herald and took me in. it was my Celtic's fantasy come true. we sat on the floor with the photographers. i still have the press pass.

Wow, I envy that.

Those Bucks teams were really tough. What a road to the Finals it was in '87.

What nobody remembers, or at least mentions, about the 1987 Game 7 vs Detroit was Parish and McHale being hurt and Bill Walton, was out practically the whole year, ripping off his warmups and checking into the game to help in a desperate situation. He could barely move but it gave the team and the crowd a huge emotional boost.

my favorite game has always been Game 4 at LA in 1984. An epic struggle that turned the series around. McHales clothesline of Rambis, the Bird and Jabbar shoving match, "What a steal by Parish!!!!!!", the winning shot by Bird, the steal by ML Carr.

what do you mean nobody mention the injuries i just did the post before yours ? ainge had a severe ankle sprain and mchale played on a broken foot. dennis johnson suffered from chronic exhaustion.

I was referring to the dramatic moment when Walton came into the game.

No team ever defending its Championship with more heart than the '87 Celtics.

When they just got to the Finals again it was like winning a title. Then to even make a series of it? Even though they lost Game 4 I remember afterwards being so proud of how they had picked themselves off the mat and nearly tied the series.

Much like the '78 Bruins when they had no business being on the same ice as the Canadiens, tying up that series 2-2 on Schmatz's OT goal.

The respect the Celtics earned by standing up to a faster, healthier, team and saying, no, you are not going to roll over us, you are not going to sweep us, we are the Boston Celtics, was something I'll never forget.

Tenacious Defense is really a great thing to watch - there have been great stands by past Celtics teams, but you have to give these guys credit for doing it ON THE ROAD without a home crowd spurring them on.

It was all them - no home crowd to give them energy, and make it tough on the opponent.

This victory ranks right up there.....
